Why Doesn't Anyone Read My Content?

Read More: Blogging

Have you ever wondered why you don't get much traffic to your articles or blog posts? OR why your emails have such a low click rate?  Well, wonder no more because I'm going to tell you - YOUR HEADLINE SUCKS!

It's true, you have a sucky headline and no one cares to click and read any further.

Take my word for it because it's a copywriting fact - the headline is the most important part of any content you create, whether it be an email, an article, blog post or video, you should spend more time crafting the headline than you do the actual content.

It matters not how good your content is, if the headline is just plain horrible.

Let me create an image for you here, because pictures are always clearer.

Imagine someone brought you a gift wrapped in a stinky smelly trash bag?  How inclined would you be to open that gift?  I mean the bag wreaks of the most awful odor you've ever smelled.  You'd most likely refuse it or you'd accept it and throw it away as soon as they were out of sight.

Now what you don't know is that within the bag is a beautifully wrapped box filled with (100) $100 bills.  Yep, $10,000 in cold hard cash.  But you never opened the gift because the packaging stunk.

That's your headline.  So you see, you want to master making your headline, so alluring, so appealing and compelling that everyone wants to open your gift - which is your message.

If you can get good at writing headlines, you can get more eyes on your content and your leads will build up dramatically.

The challenge here is that it  takes a lot of education to learn the art of copywriting; how to carefully arrange words in a sequence that strike a cord with people.

Well, good for you that I recently stumbled upon an amazing tool that's going to take the guess work out of writing headlines for you.

It's called the Emotional Marketing Value Headline Analyzer created by the Advanced Marketing Institute.

This free tool will analyze your headline to determine the emotional marketing value score.  Copywriters understand that there are certain words, magic words, action words, hypnotic words that have a certain impact on people.  That's exactly what the tool analyzes.

For example, my tile "Why Doesn't Anyone Read My Content?" came back with an EMV score of 50% indicating that my headline has a total of 50% Emotional marketing Value (EMV) words.

To put that in perspective, the English language contains approximately 20% EMV words.

And for comparison, most professional copywriters' headlines will have 30%-40% EMV Words in their headlines, while the most gifted copywriters will have 50%-75% EMV words in headlines.

In addition to the EMV score, you will find out which emotion is most impacted with your reader:  intellectual, empathetic or spiritual.

Why is a high EMV score important?

Communication is the key of effective marketing.  And the key to communication is being able to reach your reader at an emotional level, involving them in your message, and invoking their deeper thoughts.

While many marketers "guess" how people will react to various words and offers, The Advanced Marketing Institute have determined a test which will give you an actual rating that you can use to judge how well  your content will be received by others.

Bottom line...

It takes the guess work out for you and you instantly know that your headlines will get readers to open your content.

This is an amazing tool to add to your arsenal to get tons of traffic to everything piece of content you create.

Very Relevent Article

Very good article Fontella! Your article offers a valuable tool to help everyone with one of the most important items in their sales funnel. I definitely like your analogy of the gift wrapping. You could have the next million dollar idea, but if no one bothers to open the box, they'll never see what they are missing. Keep up the good work.

Bruce LaMonica — Sun, 10/24/2010 - 8:11pm

Hi Fontella, I especially

Hi Fontella,

I especially like the analogy...definitely puts things into perspective and if I wasn't aware just how important headlines are, then now I am.

Great article and thanks for sharing.

I'll just add though; the EMV Headline Analyzer is a tool at the end of the day, and the onus is on us as writers to come up with the headlines in the first place. The tool will help us improve our headlines, but through education, we must and will come to be dependent more on our own headline-creation abilities.

Studying The 100 Greatest Headlines Ever Written (http://www.abraham.com/articles/100_Greatest_Headlines_Ever_Written.html) on a regular basis can help come up with good headlines that you can input into the EMV Analyzer and move your Copywriting and Headline-creating abilities a notch up the proverbial ladder.

Again, thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.
