Copywriting On A Budget -- 2 Totally FREE Ways to Begin Learning Copywriting
Copywriting is one of the most important skills to master as an Internet Marketer.
Knowing how to write ads and emails that can effectively influence your reader to “take an action” (whether it be to buy something, opt in to your list, or proceed to another page of your website) is truly one of the most lucrative skills of the Internet Marketer.
Become skillful at copywriting and you can basically write your ticket.
- write effective ads and emails to grow your existing business
- provide value to your team members and prospects
- have other companies coming to YOU to make them more profitable
… to name just a few of the benefits!
So how do you go about becoming a “copywriting expert” — and how much do you have to spend?
To become a true expert at anything is a process — copywriting is no different — and ultimately you will want to find mentors that you’ve come to admire and trust who will help you take your skills to the next level.
And yes, you will pay for this, and gladly.
But there are 2 ways to get started learning copywriting without spending a penny:
Get To Your Local Library
Don’t have a library card? Shame on you! Get one (it’s free!) and check out the following books to start:
- The Copywriter’s Handbook, by Robert W. Bly
- The Adweek Copywriting Handbook, by Joseph Sugarman
- Hypnotic Writing, by Joe Vitale
These are basic “copywriting 101″ type books that will help you learn the basics of becoming a proficient copywriter.
Subscribe to the Lists of Copywriting “Gurus”
This is a little trick that I’ve used to learn many aspects of Internet Marketing, but none so important as copywriting. Find some of the most successful internet marketers in the world — people with a reputation — and get on their lists.
I used this when I started following people I consider to be great copywriters like Mike Dillard, David Schwind, and John Carlton. But don't use my list -- go on to any Internet Marketing or Network Marketing Forum and ask the question, "Who is the best copywriter in the business?", and you will get probably 100 different answers.
The key is to pick 2 or 3 of the most often mentioned and follow them. In this case, "follow the leader" is a very valuable tool of the trade.
Once you've done your research, google the gurus you've decided to follow, get on to their websites or blogs and opt in to become part of their list. Then sit back, relax, and watch and learn.
- notice how they provide value first, market second
- watch them use psychological triggers like scarcity and social proof to nudge people to move forward towards their pre-selected outcome
- observe the frequency of their emails, the length, the combination of various media (written work, video, audio).
You can learn so much by just becoming one of their “prospects”. And when you’re ready to take your studies to the next level, you’ll already know which “gurus’ you want to choose as mentors.
And all of the them will have products to purchase, no worries! ![]()
There you have it — 2 ways to begin your study of copywriting without spending a single solitary penny.
In Only 2 ½ Minutes You Can Quickly Create A Letter Guaranteed To Sell Your Business Opportunity.
WARNING: This is only for people VERY SERIOUS about becoming killer copywriters.

Great tips for Copywriting on a budget
Bob,
Thank you for the great info. I've been thinking about copywriting a lot and these are great tips and yes, totally free. I already wrote down the names of the books to check out from my Library. It's one tip I have to share with moms like me who take their children there.

Wow, what an insight!
The library! Why haven't I thought of that already? Dadgum, that's the best advice I've heard all week.
I love the idea of getting on the lists of the masters. I'm on a few lists right now and all some of the amateurs do is pitch, pitch, pitch. That would be fine if I was playing baseball with them, but it's really annoying. I look forward to Mike Dillard and Perry Marshal's emails throughout the week. Tom "Big Al" Schreiter has a fantastic way of making me click his links as well. We should all find our own masters and try to emulate them.
The best way to get to where we want to be is to find someone who is there and follow the trail they left.

Follow The Leader
Awesome tips, Dr. Bob! I have used the same caption in one of my articles... "Follow the Leader".
If you want to become successful... then hang out on the same street corners as the successful ones. Attract and Learn from those who are already successful.
Follow what they are doing and what is already working and duplicate in your own unique way.
Thanks for this useful info, Dr. Bob.
