Creativity Everyday

Sounds difficult, and quite honestly at times it is! If you're like me, working from home, it's VERY important to get the juices flowing early each and every morning. Look at it like morning exercise for your brain. After all, the brain is a muscle just like all our others and it too needs to be "worked out". And just like going to the gym, the more you work it out, the stronger it gets.

The first hurdle for most is the "I'm not creative, never have been" attitude or belief. To be creative doesn't necessarily mean you have to be a good painter, photographer or writer. It simply means to have the ability to take a step back and look at something with an open mind, heart and eyes.

When it comes right down to it, we're all creative in some way or another. Scientists, teachers, coaches, accountants, project managers, etc... each one of these positions or jobs requires a level of creativity. The most obvious method of being creative that each of us deals with everyday is problem solving. It requires you to "create" a plan on how to solve it. It may be simple, or difficult, but no matter what you must create something in order to solve the problem at hand.

Yes there are those folks who are "gifted" and are amazing illustrators, musicians or painters. The biggest difference between those who are creative, and those who are not, is the creative ones are the people that are not afraid to try something new. I recently went to a "Awaken your Creativity" night and was amazed at the results. We were each given a 12x12 canvas and we painted abstract art. In fact the instructor told us if he caught us trying to paint "something real" he'd smack us. At the end of the evening the people who created the coolest paintings were the two people who had never painted before!

So tomorrow morning let your mind wander and look at something in an entirely different light. Your efforts may seem pointless at first, but keep "working out" your brain, and before you know it I'm confident you'll consider yourself creative.
