How to get prospects to read your emails

Read More: Email Marketing

We all know how important email marketing is to the success or failure in an online business.

The more people you get to open your emails, the more people click on the link in those emails, the more people that see your offer, and the more people will buy from you.

In this brief article I am going to reveal a couple tricks on how to make sure your emails get opened, read, and clicked.  As well as probably the best possible trick I can tell you that will get your prospects to basically BEG you for the next email.

*Disclaimer.  Use this information at your own risk.  I am not responsible for any of the results or lack thereof.  Also you might want to split test!

1.  Email subject line.

The biggest thing you can do to make sure your prospects open your emails is to make sure you have a compelling subject line.

With all the testing I have done with emails, just like with headlines on your website, the subject line definitely makes the most difference.  If they don’t open it, they don’t read it.

Subject lines are VITALLY important.

I like to use questions or open ended statements in my subject lines.  They have proven to yield the best results, at least for me.

Things like…

Did you see what just happened?

Or

You are not going to believe this…

Or

Why would you even think about doing that?

You get the idea…

Another idea I like to use is be completely off the wall.

One of my clients is in the golf niche.  So I once used a headline that read something like this…

Ice cubes, a 9 iron, and a stuffed buffalo

(I kinda cheated because that is a line out of the movie Billy Madison) J

The more off the wall you can be, the more curiosity you will bring from your prospect and the more they will open your emails.

The last trick I like to add to my subject lines is a bracket.

[Exciting New Video] Do this one thing and…?

I think you get the idea.

One thing I see most now is people using specific numbers in their subject line.  Like…  “$25,653 Per Month Secret”

This will get you flagged as spam and doesn’t seem too compelling to me.

But be sure you pay attention to your subject lines.

I usually start writing an email based after I come up with a subject line on the topic I am writing about, craft the email, then come back to tweak the subject at the end.

Try it out for yourself and leave me a comment here to let me know your results.

2.  Don’t reveal too much in the body

If you give them a ton of information in the body of the message you leave nothing to the imagination.

Keep it compelling.  Keep it simple.  Get their curiosity up in order to get them to click.

I find that using this strategy works the best.

State a problem, offer up a reason why that problem is happening, then offer the solution by clicking the link.  If you can use a sense of urgency in your message that seems to work well too, something like “the clock is ticking” or “last chance”.

3.  Getting them to beg you for the next email.

This little trick works WONDERS, especially with autoresponder messages.

I the film world, writers use things called “Open Loops” to get you on the edge of your seat wanting more.

Why not use them in emails?

What I am talking about is this…

In every email you leave something open, something you will answer in an upcoming email.

An example would be…  “Did I ever tell you about the time I almost died? I don’t have time to tell you about it today, but watch your inbox tomorrow for the story.”

That of course is just an example.  You need to use real life experiences to open your loops.

In every email it is important that you open a loop or two.  Be as compelling as possible.  Your readers will be begging for your next email.

I hope this article has given you some good ideas to use in your very own email marketing campaigns.

That is all for today.
