How To Increase Connection In Your Marketing: Create Vivid, Eye-Popping Images!
Last week I decided to watch some television which normally is not my regular pastime but I wanted to watch a specific segment of the Oprah show that a friend recommended.
Whoa! The Oprah segment was awesome but I must say that as my thumb clicked away as if it was crazy glued to the TV remote, I literally saw some mighty vomit inducing shows.
Lovely image, right?
That’s the topic of my post, no not vomit but the IMPACT of the written word and how it evokes images.
Play with me a minute…say Yes or No to these 2 questions:
Do you want to be a singer?
.
.
.
Do you want to be a rock star?
.
.
.
I would venture to say that you were more drawn to or repelled to the Rock Star image.
Think about your most memorable interactions with your old high school buddies. Again I speculate here but research backs me up on this thought.
By nature we are visual creatures.
And the memories that are cemented in your mind are the ones that fit a specific, eye-popping image or evoke happiness, anger, fear…specific emotions!
You literally can categorize your memories or images into meaningful bits.
If you want to attract more followers, increase your blog readership, and even time on blog, apply the use of concrete words which information processing theorists have found to be most memorable.
Concrete words like Bulletproof, Rock Star call up not only tangible, detailed, and visually appealing images (if that’s your customer base) but also allow you to ignite the emotions that your people associate with those words. Let’s face it the use of these type of words tend to be the most arresting.
Avoid using abstract words that are vague and quickly fade from memory such as quality, solution, or effective.
Remember that when writing for your blog or a marketing campaign, the excessive use of abstract words result in either no sales or no connection.
If you want to improve your sales and marketing copy, first and foremost know who you’re talking to then use words that activate mental images, and/or emotions in them.
Good writing engages its readers visually and emotionally.
