How to use Google wonder wheel for keyword discovery

Whether you are looking for a hot topic to write an article, create a video, or build a PPC campaign around, the Wonder Wheel is a must use tool.  Now there are several Google keyword tools to maximize your selling prowess, but none give as descript a trail as the Wonder Wheel.  I’m talking about a simple bread crumb trail here.  Success with internet marketing keyword discovery comes from understanding where the individual searcher is going or leading to with their search.  This requires being able to drill down from the start of a search to the final destination.  Your success will come from having your presence (article, video, PPC ad) at all points along the path of the search that is congruent with the value you share.  Let me show you how it works.

I’ve provided a live link to follow the instructions step by step for visual reference along an example search.

·         To begin, enter a term “Legitimate Homebased Business” in the Google search engine (use the link provided).  This will bring up the organic listings on the topic to the left and paid ads to the right. 

·         Just below the search box in the blue colored bar on the left side click on “+Show options”.  On the left hand side of the page a new set of tools appears. 

·         Scroll down to the third category called “Standard View”.

·         Below that click on the link “Wonder Wheel”.

·         An image appears that looks a bit like a spider…legitimate homebased business is the body and the most frequently searched terms following legitimate homebased business are the eight legs (legitimate home based work, home based businesses 2009, profitable home based businesses, etc.)

·         From this list of following searches you may ad or eliminate those terms depending on your congruence with the term.  By choosing each term the organic listings will update on the right hand side providing the number of competitive pages on that term.

·         Click on those that fit adding and subtracting the terms several layers deep repeating until you feel the topic has covered your purpose.
