Studies have shown that one of the quickest ways to finding success in any venture is to work with a mentor. From personal experience, I can say with certainty that this is applicable to success in an internet marketing endeavour. Company training is great, but having access to a personal mentor to answer your questions and walk you through certain steps can be invaluable.
For most people, success as an internet marketer is definitely not dependent on whether or not you have a personal mentor... your mentor will simply speed up your path to success. Some people, regardless of the tools you give them, will simply not put in enough effort to succeed in the industry. If you’re one of the individuals who has drive, determination and is willing to learn, a mentor can give you great advice and motivation to help you avoid many mistakes you would otherwise make and quicken your path to success.
I feel very fortunate to have started my internet marketing career under one of the top internet marketers on the web today. Would I have succeeded regardless? Yes it’s very likely, but he’s been there to answer literally hundreds of questions I’ve had since beginning my career. He’s essentially allowed me to copy all the expertise he’s acquired on landing pages, blogs, Google AdWords and just general marketing advice. This isn’t to bash company training, because company training provides you with the resources and information required to get started and move forward. I simply have a very inquisitive mind and think of questions not necessarily always provided.
As stated above, those with the drive and determination to succeed will figure out the answers to their questions regardless. For a select few however, a personal mentor could be the difference between success and failure. If you’re someone who needs that little extra push or little extra attention... if you feel you might have trouble following company training and taking things into your own hands, a personal mentor could be the difference for you.

Having a mentor can save years off of one's journey. Good post.
One should note that even if they haven't fund a LIVE mentor to guide them yet, they can still use a favorite author, for example, as a mentor.
One should also note that in order to attract a strong mentor, who will more than likely have a very busy schedule and be in high demand, one should do their own due diligence. Try your best to create value for others... it will raise your profile, and show potential mentors that you're making a serious effort.
After all, they don't want to waste their time on a mentee that will quit before the going really gets going. :)

Thank you for the post. I have to whole-heartedly agree that personal mentors are vital to great success. I have been very fortunate to connect with not one or two, but three personal mentors, and they have made all the difference to me. They are not just mentors, they are my friends. Never have I've gotten so much encouragement, support and guidance; and trust me when I need a kick in the pants i'm sure they'll not hold back on that as well. What's so neat about that is I have the same access to their life as they do mine. I am very cautious about the people I allow speak into my life, because I not only look for those who can teach me, but those who can lead me, meaning they have to have the character to back it up.
These are the type of people that I want to know and who I want to befriend and mentor me. I hope that you all are as blessed to find this in your lives as well.

Yes if you don't have an actual mentor, a favourite author would also be a good "mentor" to have... there are some great articles and lots of free information out there.
About how to find an actual mentor... I recommend joining an online opportunity in which you will be mentored by whoever you sign up under. Generally these people will have videos of themselves on their landing pages. Not to blatantly promote myself... but my landing page would be a good example, and if you signed up on my page I would be your mentor. There are many other examples of this out there though.
