Mobile Phone Marketing For The Home Business
Does anyone remember what life was like before you got your mobile Phone? Like me, most people have their mobile phones on and within reach at all times during the day, and you know that it is more important to return home to get your forgotten cell phone than it is to get either your wallet or purse!
It’s hard to imaging, but the mobile market is still in its infancy… Mobile phones have gone from a remote receiver to a fully functional computing device for e-mail, Internet and using GPS to find your way. What I really love is using my phone for still and movie making as well as my voice recording features, my iPhone is the most convergent device around.
My iPhone has provided me with SMS text – the ability for me to send and receive short text messages to friends, family and business associates. Text is mainly abused by teenagers, but represents a direct method of getting a message to a mobile phone. Very much like e-mail, SMS text is delivered whenever my phone is on, and will be buffered for later delivery if the phone is out of range or off.
While using my iPhone for business is an outstanding marketing opportunity, it definitely has some challenges for SMS. Why? Because the mobile phone industry has been strong in protecting its customers from spam using SMS, so it is important to understand the limitations in using the SMS text for marketing purposes. In addition, many mobile subscribers are charged a fee for each message they send or receive, which means that sending a customer text marketing can lead to a higher mobile phone bill.
According to the Mobile Marketing Association, 90 percent of companies will use SMS text and multimedia messaging to reach their audiences in 2010, with nearly one quarter planning to spend more than 15 percent of their budgets on advertising in the text message marketing medium. In addition, the cost of text marketing is relatively low.
As a means to edge out competition, many businesses are introducing mobile ordering services via text SMS messaging. Normally, the customer creates an account on a Web site and activates the text message ordering service by entering their mobile number and notifying the business when they would like to make an order. This text message lets you know how to reserve extra services when a text message arrives.
