Network Marketers, What’s your story?
Network Marketers, What’s your story?
No, I'm not talking about your "Why," or your excuses, or what you tell your kids before your tuck them in at night...
I'm talking about your business story. Because it's important -- more important than many realize.
If you've been following this blog, then you know that Monique and I preach the art of self-promotion.
People join YOU, not your company.
But if they don't know who you are or what you're about -- they'll go find someone who makes it clear who they are and join them, instead.
Don't believe me about the importance of your story?
Well, let's take a look at our Network Marketing companies, for example. What do they promote?
Their story.
They don't sell fruity juice or skin care -- they sell the story behind the fruity juice and skin care:
"Deep in the Himalayas, the Yetis have been eating the Woka Woka fruit for centuries. It is the secret to their longevity and glowing hair. Our scientists have discovered the most potent combination of Woka Woka fruit and other fruits high in antioxidants to create the perfect blend of health drink. And now, it is available to the average person for only $39.95 a bottle!..."
OR
"For centuries, man has been on an eternal quest to discover the secret to eternal youth and for just as long, this quest has seemed like nothing more than an elusive dream. Until now! With our patent-pending technology, our scientists have come up with the only way to remove liver spots and spider veins..."
These are obviously made up examples, but I think you get my point ;)
Now let's look at the way old-school Networkers run their hotel meetings, shall we?
I mean, there is obviously a formula to it -- or else they wouldn't all be run the same way.
What do they always do at some point during the meeting?
They bring different distributors up front to share their stories, right?! It goes something like this:
"I was skeptical about the whole thing at first, I said, 'This isn't one of those pyramid schemes, is it?' But then, I started seeing how my neighbor Pat was able to buy a pony, a Cadillac, and an outdoor swimming pool all within a week of joining this A-mazing opportoonity!
I was shy and nervous as a dog at first -- sweat gushing out of my armpits, but all I had to do was demonstrate our product on a few friends and family and -- the next thing you know -- here I am up here on this stage speaking to you as a Double-Dog Diamond executive. And I just know in my heart that if I can do it, anybody can do it!"
Storytelling helps us relate to the person speaking, keeps us engaged, and gives us the sense that we too can be "Double-Dog Diamond executives."
And storytelling isn't restricted to Network Marketing, either. Go watch QVC and infomercials for further proof.
So how does this relate to you and your business?
If you want to attract potential customers and business builders to you, instead of cold calling and chasing people around -- you're going to need to share your story.
And share it often.
Keep in mind that your story will constantly evolve as you continue your journey.
Hone it.
Refine it.
Perfect it, and it will serve you well.
One of my all-time favorite examples is Jim Rohn's story of how he was mad when he became a full-time Networker because he could no longer tell people about all the money he was making as a part-timer.
Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
How about you -- what's your story? Tell me in the comments below:
