In this age of information, not knowing what your market is after is a do or die situation. Your business will only be as good as the information you have.Surveys as a marketing tool

Not all internet business training is created equal and most forget the importance of surverys. But sample surveys can play an important role to collect the information you will need.

If done right, surveys can reduce new product risks and generate insights about your customers and market. If done poorly, sample surveys can lead you down a path with no returns, literally.

This article will cover the basic components of writing an effective sample survey.

Three Major Components Define Effective Sample Survey Writing.

For your survey to be effective, it must have a well-defined objective, be matched to your target market and have a clear presentation of the results.

First, decide what problem will the results solve, or how will the results be incorporated into your decisions. If you don't spell out the objectives first, your questions will lack relevancy and your survey will get too complex as your results will fail to illuminate the issues you wish to address.

Ideally, your survey should take no more than twelve to fifteen minutes to fill.

Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Will the information I'm after help me meet my objectives?
  2. Will I need a lot of detail or just a little?
  3. Is the information available somewhere else?

Your questionnaire must be written properly where the questions you ask won't leave any doubts as to the results.

Open ended questions can generate the most insights but are the hardest to categorize for analysis.

That's why you need to be really clear about your objectives. Since you will be reaching a wide audience with various backgrounds, make sure you use familiar words and define technical terms clearly. Avoid using slang or question structures that can confuse.

A good tip is to group questions by category or objectives whenever possible. This means you will put yes or no questions together, followed by those using scales or rankings.

Another great tactic is to put the most interesting questions at the beginning and save those that may have personal or potentially embarrassing questions for last.

Next to asking the right questions, you need to choose the right survey tool. Traditionally, surveys were given by mail, telephone or in person, but now, this practice is being supplanted by web-based surveys.

There are several benefits to using web based surveys:

  • it's cost effective
  • reaches a larger population sample
  • saves time as Internet based survey tools automatically crunch all the numbers.

There are many web based survey sites, some you have to pay for and some you don't. Those that are free are usually short of many features obviously found in paid membership survey sites.

In another article, I will take you to a survey site with exceptional free features that makes using surveys as an information tool really easy and flexible.

Give your audience what they're looking for

This is not only a great way to gather information on your customers buying habits, but surveys also give you a great idea of what your market is generally looking for, very useful article.
