Promoting Versus Marketing
For any company that exists today in the twenty first century, both promoting and marketing are key ingredients to successful business for the future. Without promoting and marketing, a company will no doubt fail due to its lack of either component. And while promoting and marketing may seem similar, they are in fact very different. There is a huge difference between promoting and marketing. While they may seem to be the same thing, the difference between promoting and marketing is a rather large set of different factors that distinguishes each one and ensures that it is unique.
The key difference between promoting and marketing is intent of the service. Marketing exists for one reason, and that reason is to lead customers into being interested in a particular product of any sort. Marketing is meant to influence a purchase, and is generally a component in increasing desire for a product. Marketing purely exists to interest potential customers or clients into a service or product. This is the main thing that makes marketing a different component of a business from promotion. Marketing is primarily used to convince people to purchase, while promotion has its own unique function that is separate from the function of marketing.
So while marketing has a special purpose, promotion is a way of increasing general awareness of a product or service to a larger demographic of potential clients. With promotion, the key desired effect is simply an increased awareness of a product or service, a desire to purchase on the part of the customer is not required for the object of promotion to be considered a success. Promotion mainly exists to just raise awareness of a product, while marketing is more favored toward convincing the interested party to purchase the product being advertised. That right there is the difference between promoting and marketing.
It has now been stated that the difference between promoting and marketing is that marketing exists to convince a purchase to be made on the part of the consumer, while promoting is utilized to raise general awareness of a product, with an interest in purchasing not being required for it to be considered promotion. Both types of information transfer are integral to any modern business, and without them a business will not thrive as much as it would if they were in effect and utilized. The difference between promoting and marketing is a key difference.
