REVEALED! How to Get On the Front Page of Better Networker
In case you missed it- there was a very active forum thread about "How to Get on the Front Page of Better Networker".
The conversation turned to some folks trying to craft some system to figure out what matters most- views, comments or votes- or all of the above, or some of the above.
As someone who recently returned to the Better Networker community in late July- I've already had, I think 3 maybe 4 articles that were featured in Jason Better's weekly email on the best articles on Better Networker.
Several more have been on the "Featured Content" slider on the Better Networker home page, and this month, 2 of my articles (This One and This One) were featured in the Best of Better Networker magazine this month, and I just had one article that received 60-something votes.
What's the secret?
Did I "crack" the code?
Do I have an inside source at Better Networker?
Do I have superhero powers?
Heck no! (But I do wish I had superhero powers...) : )
Hopefully from my articles, you know that I don't believe in things like "gaming the system" to get ahead. If that means that my business doesn't grow as rapidly as someone who's trying to cheat the system, I'm cool with that.
Why?
At the end of the day, I have to look at myself in the mirror AND all of those "black-hat" tricks work for a limited time. Then you're trying to find another way to beat the system. That's just not my cup of tea.
I'd rather have a slow, steady growth in my business instead of massive peaks and valleys that are inherent in a business centered on short-lived "tricks" (now that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try new things, and get creative...but cracking an algorithm to get an advantage to put your content up that otherwise wouldn't "cut the mustard" in the normal realm of things is a totally different thing in my opinion.
And besides... even if you do somehow figure out the Better Networker alogorithm, it'll be short-lived because the alogrithm will change. So, why now just get on the Front Page the right way.
So, if you're interested in a tried and true method of getting on the front page of Better Networker here's the secret (it comes in 4 parts).
1. Write a Catchy Headline: Assume people are going to see your article on a page with 25 others. Does your headline GRAB people's attention? Does it relate to something that people are wanting to know about? After you write your headline, read it to yourself- would YOU click on your article if it was among a group of 25?
One caveat- make sure that your headline is related to your content in some way.
If you have a catchy but unrelated headline, people will think twice before opening your article next time. Also- getting people to click on your article title is only half the battle.... you've got to get your readers engaged if you want to get Votes and Comments, and I'm pretty sure that votes are one of the main factors in getting featured in the BoBN Magazine.
2. Write Good Content. If you write stuff that people don't care about, you aren't going to get votes or comments. Browse the forums...see what people are talking about, then write an article about it sharing your thoughts.
Also, make sure that your articles are "easy on the eyes. Don't write paragraphs that look like people are reading a text book.
Try writing in a conversational tone so you reader feels like their being engaged.
Like right now, are you feeling engaged, or not so much? ; )
How bad would it be, if I didn't engage you in this article where I'm telling you to engage your reader?!?
I digress...
3. Call- to-Action. Make sure that you encourage your readers to VOTE on your content (if they like it....or even if they don't like it, but think that you provoked a good discussion)
Like right now....if you've learned something so far- go ahead and click on the VOTE button on the top left hand corner of this article.
Then, you want to encourage your readers to comment, and make sure that you take the time to respond to the people who were kind enough to take the time to share their thoughts with you .
4. Syndicate Your Article. Post your Better Networker article to your Facebook Profile and encourage your friends to visit your article. Post your article to your Twitter profile. Send an email to your list with the link to your Better Networker article. If you're in a Tribe, share your Better Networker article with your Tribe.
So, there you have it. The secrets to how I've gotten on the Front Page of Better Networker without having to do some convoluted experiement on how to crack the Better Networker algorithm.
Of course, if have to ask you a favor...if you liked this article please Vote for it and of course, share your comments. If you have another secret to getting on the Front Page, share the wealth!
To Your Success,

You "cracked the code"!
Natasha,
Way to go!
There is absolutely NOTHING mysterious about getting "noticed" on BN.
The four things you listed are simply what it takes.
Thanks for clearing the air on this one.
It doesn't get any better than getting this "insider information" from someone who's had a bunch of BN exposure!
Thanks for sharing in stupid-simple terms!

How To Get On The Front Page...Another Look
Hey Natasha,
Great article. I have a bit of a different view, but still very close.
1. Your headline means much less than your name. People read what I post because I posted it. Regardless of the title, they're gonna read it. I believe this is true for your content also. Same goes for email subjects. The most important thing in the subject line is your name.
2. Yep. If your content isn't good, you'll have exactly the opposite of the effect in #1. Nobody will read your stuff because they saw your name on it. Even if you have a catchy headline, the second they see your name on it, they'll click off.
3. Call to action. Good point. Yet if the person is a fan, they'll do it anyway. Still a good plan to include it. Can't hurt. :)
4. Yes, of course. Duplicate content is a myth. Share your stuff all over the net.
Thanks for the tips Natasha.
Good Advice
I rapidly lose any respect I might have had for a person when they brag about how they "gamed" the system to give the image they are a super hero.
While advertising and syndication is part of marketing, false hype and networking with the sole intent of creating fake social buzz is not something I am interested in.
Quality content will do everything the fake buzz will, and you will build a genuine following of people who appreciate your content.
But you are gaming the system....
Are we not gaming the system called Physchology?
Are we not saying, "Learn the emotion buttons of people, to know their needs, to understand how they think?"
Like I mentioned before, people have their truths, and so they see that perspective, and what they see.
If you don't know how a system works, then you don't know how it works.
But you do, don't you Natasha because what headline did you use?
"REVEALED! How to Get On the Front Page of Better Networker"
That's the EXACT headline except you've added REVEALED and not left out Magnetic Sponsoring.."
We call this in "How to Milk it."
For Headline to work, you had to "CHEAT" the system. You used what has been on that front page for a while and what has caused some major noise too.
And it's still making people think 2-2 together.
Maybe you go and look at the thread forum and see what it is really about. And take a look at the video too.
So there is a system - called physchology, buzz, and catching a wave.
So you GAMED and "CHEATED" the system - You saw an opportunity, and you gamed on that oportunity.
Nothing wrong with that because that's how it works.
So no, it's not just about headline. It's not just about content.
It's also TIMING.
RIDING the wave of something else, that was created, which you did.
Nothing wrong with that.
Because that's really the system of life and social media and how it works.
What is wrong, is calling others who were using this as a test, and some yes, went a bit crazy with it too.
However, the benefit of it was what?
That members of community came together, to learn from each other. And got to know each other well. And helping each other.
That's not gaming the system or cheating.
That's what's SUPPOSED to happen.
You took it wrong the last time on the other thread, and you was replied to what it was really about.
And you replied back on that thread with an understanding that..
"ooh, so it was about testing...ok"
Now, you seem to take it further here, saying it was about gaming a system.
Didn't you used the noise, the headline that has been on that front page for a while, and then used a headline, and wrote an article?
Then you're saying it's about headline only and content?
Adam
Great Post
Thanks Natasha,
Great Post.
I have to say I agree with Dave. I read your post because your name is on it. I try to read everything you post because I expect that anything you write is something that I need to know about.
Having a good name is worth more than a good subject line. As it says in Proverbs 22:1 "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold."
I am sure other people will look at the headline, just until they get to know you, or whomever is writing.
People that try to cheat the system will have a short lived success.
Readers will realize what they are up to and will stop reading their posts. It will actually do more harm than good, especially in relationship marketing.
Have a blessed day.
Teresa
Re: You "cracked the code"!
Thanks Stacia! As you know (since I told you this stuff last week) it works! Congratulations on being featured in the Weekly BoBN email! ; )
Re: How To Get On The Front Page...Another Look
Dave-
Thanks for stopping by! I TOTALLY agree about the name recognition! But then again, that brings up a chicken and egg thing, doesn't it?
If you don't have name recognition, how are you going to get on the top of the board? I just shared how I was able to get on the front page after being gone for almost a year from in industy : )
In fact, I guess I had a little case study.... One of my students, Stacia Hopkins, asked me how to get on Better Networker. I told her these 4 things. Nothing more, nothing less.
She didn't have the "name recognition" on BN, but she was able to grab a spot in the Weekly BoBN email last week.
Thanks for reminding us that reputation is once again, very important!
Re: Good Advice
Thanks Dean!
Re: Aren't You Gaming the System
Adam,
I very much appreciate you taking the time to share your views.
I don't think that I'm "gaming" the system at all. There was a very long forum thread about this issue.
While there were some excellent points you'd have to wade through the 22 pages of comments, i think, of posts, many of which weren't getting to the root of the issue.
What became clear was that this was an issue people were interested in reading about. But many (I included) typically aren't willing to read through 22 pages of posts to get the answer.
So, I responded to what I perceived was a "need" of the BN Community. And having some fairly decent results in a short time on BN, I felt that I was in a position to share what I personally have done to succeed on getting on the first page of BN.
I absolutely do not believe that this is "gaming" the system at all. And like I said in my article, writing a catchy headline only goes so far. It is my hope that the readers of my article find value in it.
Regarding the forum thread, once I started thinking about the "testing", and seeing one individual basically writing post after post solely to keep the forum thread going without adding value, I decided that the "testing" might be used to game the system. That, I felt, was wrong. Which is the reason for my comments.
You raised some excellent points about Psychology and Buzz and catching a wave.
THAT was the point of the article- to share my thoughts on getting on the front page, and for others to share their golden nuggets!
Thanks for all that you do in the community Adam!
Natasha
The right recipe!
Natasha, very valid points. You have shared the right recipe. I also think if content is a bit outside the "normal" it helps too.
I believe Content is Everything
For the Long Haul. Some are Elvis Presley's and Michael Jordans when it comes to Content and Value.
Some of us are Tweeking and growing we are not there yet. But does that mean we do not have a audience? You need to know who are you trying to impress. If it is certain MLM Lead System pro Gurus You better wait to post till you get it perfect.
My audience knows they will not get perfection. They may not even get "value" at the Guru Level. But they will get something that they want from me. And that is some one Eager to serve them and someone who gives unconditional Love. I know that is a Taboo to use "that word" in Business. But This is MY BUSINESS I am not running a Dog eat Dog Business. So some people find what I offer valuable. And if they like what I do I will Mentor them for Free. So some keep looking some see me grow. Some Hate me Some Love me.
My Content is not Superior. But it is Excellent at being me. And that is why people follow me and read my content and join my Business because although I am lacking in many areas. I know were to get the information and I Love what I do and am eager to share. That is contagious. I Pour out love to all. And continue to ad value to myself on every level.
My Mantra is you do not have to be the Best Just be the Best You. And you will become better at everything.
So What gets you to the Top of BN all of the Above. Name recognition great headline Great consistent content That is better then your last one.
On line you are in a place where people need help You are a King with one eye in the Land of the Blind.
So what one man values another thinks is trash.
So Write Write Write TEST TEST TEST
And Learn more about People then anything Else and you will have success in every area of your life.
I believe Content is Everything
Juanita-
Did you use "Elvis" in your comment because you knew I was from Memphis?!? ; )
You raise such a great point- you don't need to be a Guru to get on the front page of Better Networker. You don't even need all of the answers. Your articles don't have to be perfect.
You just need to inject your personality and a little nugget of information that you've learned that may help someone else.
You're right on that "one man's trash is another man's treasure".
What I choose to write about may interest some, but not all. I'm not writing for everybody. I have a good idea of who it is that reads my stuff, and I keep those people in mind in every single thing that I write.
Re: The right recipe!
Lynn-
Great suggestion! FRESH content that's outside the norm definitely grabs people's attention and it also keeps us moving forward as our businesses evolve!
The wave...
@Juanita
That's what one needs to do...TEST. To do that, first we know how the system works.
Content isn't king. There are many great contents on BN right now, and none show up.
By the way, good to see you mate.
@Natasha...We see a wave, we ride that wave to our advantage.
1. Traffic.
2. Click.
3. Blog and list.
And we see a story, or a climb, or a news, or a negative, that is happening, and we climb it to catch. Reverse it.
Or we going to now say, that we write for the sake of it? We write to attract prospects, leads, which leads to a sales funnel. Which leads to money.
Yes, there's also the love of it to, but we know the game when we see trend or anything to alert our atenna.
That's the blunt of it. No grey areas.
Bad or good wave. Then we say it happens because of ourselves or what we did.
That's strategising on what is happening and get in, to ride the wave.
Nothing wrong with that.
But any common sense person can see that.
If they can't, it's cool by me.
As for Lucien, no matter what he's done or doing etc - the man has a good heart.
And if 95% had the energy he has, and passion, they'll go far. Yes, he'll learn from the experience and everyone, needs to also see something.
It got someone to..
1. Write an article with near the same headline.
2. Take time to write a full page.
3. Have someone else create another thread on it and debate.
Good or bad - there is a lesson in this more than what is seen.
That's how I see things. I go past the 22 pages stuff and see the gold.
And for me, that dude is gold and will be an asset to the BN community now and in future.
There are people in world who are different, high energy, bubbly, loud. Big massive excitement. Many can take them the wrong way.
But I've seen such people who later learn and become superstars in life.
I expect others then, to do same, in being forgiving when we make any mistakes, or we do things others don't understand.
Our role on BN, is even when we see it, we rise above it. And find the gold, when we see a certain quality from BN members.
His quality is that he cares. He may do it wrong way, or whatever way, but he cares.
He has a rare quality - in not being scared to be himself, and have fun. For me, that's better than any top 10 or 1 popular article.
Yes, 22 pages. But I'm good at moving through to find the gold, and gold.
So everyone, when you see him, welcome him back.
It's not a big deal.
Best wishes
Adam Taha
I love it Natasha
While people do try to "game" the system and sometimes succeed...
You'll find that the most valuable content always rises to the front page of Better Networker. :-)
Re: I Love it Natasha
Sweet! Not only have some of the people who are frequently featured on the front page of Better Networker joined me in giving up their tips to rising on the front page- Jason stopped by to weigh in too!
Thanks Jason! Great to see you : )
Thanks for sharing your insights
Hi Natasha,
thanks for sharing your insights. It's definitely not rocket science, but common sense and and integrity. Of course you knew which buttons to push, but not technical black hat tricks. You are right: This would definitely be very short sighted.
You created good content and presented it in a way people were attracted by it.
Take care
Oliver
Re: Thanks for sharing your insights
Thanks for stopping by Oliver :) Of course, knowing what buttons to push is important. This ties in well with Adam's comment about the importance of psychology. Psychology plays a HUGE role in any sort of advertising or marketing whether its a sports drink or an article on Better Networker!
