SELF-BRANDING: Why I hate to see other people do it!
Do not get me wrong. I am into self-branding marketing strategy myself. I just want you to know why I hate it when other people do it really wrong. There are plenty of reasons why people turn down Network Marketers and Internet Marketers alike. I will show you why people fail using Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Friendster and other Web 2.0 websites. Find the top 3 reasons why I hate the way other people use self-branding.
1. Improper Introduction – need I explain further? Check out these Private Messages examples that I get on Facebook. I have included what I think of when I see as such:
“Hey, are you still struggling?” – (With what? I don’t have a girlfriend yet, are you selling one?)
“How’s your internet marketing?” – (That’s none of your business, who are you anyway?)
“Hi Geoffrey, I see we are both members of BetterNetworker. I am hoping we can do business together. Please join me on my business by subscribing to this link!” - (Some nerve! You propose that I do business with you by ordering me around like clicking on your link?!)
2. Bragging Foolishly– perhaps you’ve seen title posts on Tagged, Friendster or Facebook like these. I have included what I think of when I see as such:
“CBFreakOs is HOT! I made my first $1000 in just 24 hours, don’t get left behind!” – (Oh yeah? Why do I have a feeling that I can’t trust your claim?)
“Do an Internet Business with me, I have made it big!” – (Yawn! What got big again?)
“Check out this AWESOME webinar. You don’t want to miss this!” – (Clicks X on browser. Oooopps! I missed it!)
3. Poor Article/Blog Titles – sometimes there are other people who are half-way of doing it correct. I just wish they put more attractive and sensible titles on their posts. I don’t read posts that have titles that look like spam or doesn’t make any sense. See the examples below:
“Have you heard about her yet?” - (No! And I don’t care!)
“Are you starting to feel the magic?” - (Uhhh…. What magic?)
“I am bringing some friends” - (Ok! Enjoy! I’ll delete your message and move on to the next!)
“New Feature Launched! Free Classifieds section for your convenience!” – (So what’s the catch? I’m sure there is a catch but I am too lazy to read on.)
Of course I wouldn’t be telling you those if I didn’t have a remedy for it. Check out these simple yet amazing steps in doing self-branding.
1. Introduce yourself and try to make a relationship – relationship between you and your prospect isn’t really hard. You just introduce yourself, be-friend a little, discover their needs and see if you have something to offer. If you don’t have what they want, then ask them if they’ll be interested in something that you have. If the person is interested, offer them what you have in exchange for the email address and a possible referral.
