search engine optimization guide

Welcome to, The search engine optimization guide

My plan is to to explain to you how to get more traffic to your blog using the leverage of backlinks and how you can use them to beat your competition with smart SEO techniques.

The Joy Of Backlinks (ha)

backlinks

Let me say this, just to be brutally honest, building backlinks is a boring and mundane task, the chances are you will feel like you are going insane while you are doing it!

Unfortunately backlinks are so important for this search engine optimization starter guide. Lets face it, the main concepts of SEO has not changed in many years.

This is the bottom line, you need good content and backlinks which will be equated as "votes" for your content. While this concept is simple, in practice, like most things there are challenges.

It Is Not The Quantity - It Is The “Quality”!

The trick is this, it is not how much backlinks you can get, it is how much "quality" backlinks, big difference!

What is the difference you may ask? You need backlinks that have established "trust", this tasty "trust" can be feed into your website or blog with the cheeky backlink!

Sucking Link Juice!

This “authority” is commonly referred to as Page Rank (or abbreviated as PR). Your goal is to get as much backlinks from the websites that have good PR and suck up all that lovely "link juice".

This will benefit your website and give you quality “votes” of “authority” that will sky rocket your rankings with time and patience.

Just to conclude here, without getting to "geeky", I want to mention that, in my opinion you should monitor the frequency of your backlinks. It is not so much how many backlinks you create per day, it is more important to build a "consistent" flow of backlinks. So, instead of blasting your site with 100 backlinks one day, then nothing after, spread it out over a consistent time frame, say 10 per day, just an example to help you my friend.

Rootin Tootin Shootin

Sorry, the pic reminded me of Yosemite Sam! The other key thing to worry about with backlinking is to not dump to many links at a time on a site, especially a new site. Otherwise, you and your website will find yourself in the Oogle Principal office awaiting a sandboxing!

Great info,
Eric McMillan

A Naughty Mule?

Hey Wayne, great writing, and great advice. Thanks for all the great advice.

Without a good backlink strategy you simply can't rank in Google.

Link exchange directories

There are site similar to social networking sites for people active in SEO. You place their links on your site then send them a request. The to confirm they are forced to place your link on their site. It is a great way to automate the process.

The site I use no longer accepts and new users at this time.

Funny stuff!

...But informative.

This stuff does work, though -- I know I've seen your Alexa score sky-rocket!
