What Is SEO - Some Essential Ordeal? SEO For Newbies
Introduction
Creating a nice looking website is one thing, but getting it noticed by other people is a different matter entirely. Even if a website provides informative content on a popular subject it may still only attract relatively few visitors. These coveted visitors are referred to as ‘traffic,’ and without it, you will not be in business; for profit anyway. One of the most proven and reliable methods of gaining and increasing website traffic, is the use of Search Engine Optimization, or SEO. So, to answer the question, Yes. If your goal is making money, SEO is Some Essential Ordeal.
Your Website
Let’s say that you have just created a new website on a particular topic. Your site will be so new that it will not be listed in a prominent search engine result page; or any page for that matter. There are a number of techniques you can employ to give you an advantage so that your site will appear above your competitions’ in search engine listings. Though the search engine companies themselves keep the criteria by which they rank web pages a secret, there are a number of generally accepted SEO practices and SEO techniques that you can use to improve your search engine position.
King Content
If your website is full of excellent and interesting content, as alluded to above, then you have already done the most important thing you can do for a website. Without strong content, all the SEO trickery in the world won’t get people to stick around to read what’s there. If your website is a personal project that you do for fun then the amount of visitors you do or don’t get may not be an issue.
However, if your website is likely to be your main source of income, then attracting web traffic is essential. There are many legitimate ways of letting search engines know what your website is about. There are also a number of riskier techniques that can be used to exploit the way that search engines rank websites. Opinions are often divided over which techniques are superior, making SEO something of an adventure in ethics.
Keywords & Keyword Phrases
It is generally recommended that you place relevant keywords in the Meta title of each page, in the headers, and in the main content on your site. This will give a clear indication to the search engines, of the content on each page. But which keywords should you use for best SEO?
You should research which keywords or search terms people are likely to enter, in looking for what you are selling on your website. Google provides a tool which provides the volume of people searching for particular keywords each month. There are also software programs and other information sources available, that provide alternative assessments of search volumes statistics. You should also analyze your competitors’ sites to see which keywords they have used in their titles and headers.
When using keyword phrases, it is advisable to include them in the body of the text on your pages. Do not overdo the use of these words however, as it may cause the search engines to label your site as spam. Readers may also find the text awkward and annoying to read, as constant repetition of a handful of phrases is not a natural way of communicating.
In Conclusion
Thus far, we have only just scratched the surface of the Search Engine Optimization, SEO universe. This introduction to the topic, should still give you enough insight to at least get started. For more information, there is no shortage of resources available on the internet. But do make sure that you seek two or three additional opinions on each area of this vast subject matter, until you are confident that you have found the best approach for your unique SEO campaigns.
