She Sent The Fish Back!
Yesterday, was my Mom's 75th birthday. So, my Dad and I took her out for dinner. She likes fish, and hates when we go "too fancy," so we just went to a mid-priced place that has some nice choices.
My Dad, who is almost 80 now, is confined to a wheelchair, so getting him out of the house is a big deal. I'm always glad when we have an excuse to get him out.

The evening started off nicely. My parents were not bugging me about my love life or my business....lol!
But then, something weird happened. My Mom did not like her salmon. She said it was "way too fishy tasting." So, she sent it back. They tried to make her something else, but she was not interested. She had her heart set on the salmon. She had been talking about how great that salmon was going to be for a couple of days!
Now, my mom is not normally that high-maintenance, but she clearly did not get what she was expecting. This got me thinking. How many times do we as marketers look at a menu within our industry? Be honest now. If you are marketing online, it's happening DAILY. If you check your email often, it's probably happening more than that.
You know what I'm talking about...the constant bombardment of offers from the so-called gurus. Now, don't get me wrong. Many of them have excellent offers...the problem lies within ourselves. We think that by buying the lastest and greatest system or tool, that it will be THE answer to our success. Well, nothing could be further from the truth. The answer lies within ourselves! We must have the faith, courage, and proper actions to propel ourselves forward.
OK, true confessions here. I am VERY guilty of doing this. I've bought so many different courses, systems, tricks and tools. I've spent thousands of dollars unnecessarily. And I can assure you, there are not that many things that you need.
Here's all you really need...
1. A positive winning attitude (hopefully you already have this).
2. A good work ethic...stay disciplined and focused.
3. A community of like minded individuals and mentors.
4. A good marketing system with training and branding, that helps you attract the right people to you and your opportunity.
That's IT! Really, that's all there is. Everything else is just an appetizer or dessert. It's not the Main Course.
It's time for you to stop ordering things, thinking they are going to be your answer, only to send them back, or to let them sit on a shelf. It's time for you just bite into the ONLY thing you need.
Wouldn't it be nice to finally KNOW the menu item that is perfect? That you can enjoy? That you'd never send back? That's it's everything you needed for complete sustenance?
It's right here ---> THE MAIN COURSE
All the best,
Shecky

Nice article
Jeff,
Nice! I am all about simple in my personal and business life. Simple is easier. Easier isn't always more simple.
Thanks for sharing your families story. Love the picture of your mom. Very cute.
I can relate!
Shecky,
I totally can relate. You can get so overwhelmed with all the different "systems" out there. It seems there's a new one on the block every other month. I'm for keeping it simple. K.I.S.S.
No system in the world is going to work if you (can't) don't work it.
Jeff, If I could add one thing?
Some business know how, training or at least the motivation to get out and talk to other business owners.
I really think business training should be mandatory in network marketing. It would weed out a lot of "failures" who just don't get a business owner's work ethic, monetization of any and all products and the uniqueness you have to bring to your business to survive against the Walmarts of the world.
Thanks Jeff
Intriguing headline... and so true about the relief of parents not discussing business and love life ;-)
And here's my 'tip' to the server... every couple of months unsubscribe to every list you're on. You'll do really well!
Yes, Keep It Simple!
Jeff,
What I liked best about your article was first, how you cleverly drew us into reading your article using a story. Secondly I like how simple and easy it was to understand and apply.
The only thing I would add is:
5. Personal consistent development through books and other materials available.
Good article.

Great input...
Thanks for all the additional comments...
@Bev - yes, absolutely.
@Sandeep - yes, I need that reminder....It's amazing how easy it is to get ON lists, huh? :)
@Joyce - I agree.
@Ilka and Charlene - thanks for your comments!

Hey Jeff
Nice story.
I am like you, I buy sooooo much training material but it is the simple stuff that I am relly attracted to.
Thanks for the story!
Nice and Concise!
Jeff,
This is a great article and it really is as simple as the 4 points you mentioned with the very most critical element being the YOU factor. No matter how great the "thing" you still must be the one to make it all work!
Loved the story about your parents!

Comments helpful
Hi Jeff, I like your writing style as well as the witty article itself. I found the comment by Sandeep Nath especially helpful. He said "every couple of months unsubscribe to every list you're on. You'll do really well!"
Wow! that would really cut down on the information overload that I have been experiencing. I feel a weight being lifted just thinking about it. Currently, I feel like I spend hours a day wading through hundreds of emails which wrecks havoc on my focus. Do I dare? I say, YES.
Loved your wit... and what you said!
I recently joined a network marketing company, after being a portrait photographer for many years. Listening to many systems, and about to click buy, something keeps stopping me. It is the K.I.S.S. .. that worked so well in my past. Thank you for endorsing what I have been doing.. simply enjoying the experience of it all! (and I hope you take your parents back to the restaurant soon, so your lovely Mom will have her salmon!) Thank you, Denise
Even this post is simple and good advice actually
Good common sense and teaching Jeff.
Some years ago in the replicated web site era (maybe it's still around) when we where all pitching the same companies I also spent many 1000"s for the search for the BIG RED EASY BUTTON.
Darn it all....I never found it.
Does anyone have it?
you're one bad a## doood!
bro, i'm proud of you.
you've been on most popular today for a few days now. I wonder what your secret is :P hahaha!! ;-)
lol
awesome post bro!
