Attraction Marketing #3 - Squidoo
When you go about setting up an online marketing business, whether it's network marketing, affiliate marketing or a high-end direct sales product, you want to set yourself up as someone who can give your prospects what they're looking for. This is called positioning. If your prospect sees you as an expert, you ARE an expert, at least in their mind.
By the way, if you spend a single afternoon researching a subject, you'll know more about it than 90% of the population. Sweet. Instant expertise!
So how do you make sure you're seen as an expert, and not just another newbie claiming to be an "Internet Business Coach?"
It's really very simple. And as usual, the vast majority of online network marketers
go about it the wrong way. Big surprise, eh?
Almost everyone thinks that the best way to get lots of traffic to their blog is to spew links across the internet anywhere they can. This group thinks that any link is a good link. Well, that's not necessarily true.
The point of setting up links is to get traffic to your web real estate on popular social sites. You know, places where people go when they're looking for information, not to be bombarded with yet another lame sales pitch from some wannabe marketer that doesn't know any better.
Then you link your page on the "authority" site to your blog. It's much more effective to send people to some of your content on another site and then link that site to your blog, than it is to link everything straight to your blog. It may seem backwards, but I promise if you test this, you'll discover the truth. Of course, you'll have links to your blog, too, but they won't all be to the home page, and it won't be every link you ever set up.
A very good way to start positioning yourself, is to get some links to popular social sites on the web, like Squidoo. If you've never heard of it, it's an online network where you can build specialized web pages called lenses. They can be about anything you want. My suggestion is that you build your first lens in the "About Me" section, and give a brief rundown of your life, your interests, etc. Kinda like an online dating profile, but less BS.
Use pictures, video, audio and some killer text to interest your prospect in you and what you're about. You kinda wanna downplay your business a little. Just present it as a part of what you do. Your life story is what will get them interested in you. If they're looking for a business, they'll find it on your page without any pushing by you.
This is my Squidoo "About Me" lens:

The last time I looked, I was ranked #186 in the "Me" category. I don't know how many lenses there are in that category, but #186 seems like it's pretty good. Especially since I've only really worked on it for about 2 weeks, and I've just started to flesh it out a little. (I just checked this morning, and my rank had jumped almost 100 spots in 2 days. Cool.)
Take action today!
Before you shut down for the night, go to Squidoo. Create your account. (If you want to brand yourself, use your name) At the very least, you should write a few lines and upload your online picture. You know, the one you use everywhere, so people will recognize you when they see your content? They'll remember your face way easier than your name.
Do this now. If you put it off, you'll get into the habit of putting things off. Not what you want to do.
Remember, you want to focus on one thing at a time till it's finished. So don't start any other projects until you've got your Squidoo "About Me" page set up. It doesn't have to be perfect, just give your prospects something to look at when they get there. You'll make it better little by little as you have new stuff to add.
In Attraction Marketing #4, we'll talk about Facebook.

Yep..Squidoo!!
Good stuff Dave! I'm on my 4th Squidoo lens. I'm very impressed with their whole set up..attitude, the more selfless approach and yet allowing you to promote yourself or Business.
Happy New Year Dave!

Squidoo Me
Dave:
Great idea about "Me" lens! Recently Squidoo has become very aggressive about any lens that mentions "MLM", Network Marketing, etc. and blocks them. A ME lens is a great way to get people to know who you are and introduce them to your business.
