No I'm Not A Computer Geek
No...I am not a techno geek ...in fact I belong to the generation of people that are mostly computer illiterate.
There are some of us that are bold enough to say that we are not going to let the world pass us by just because we don't know how to even turn a computer on.
It is kind of like some people that never learned to read...what a handicap.
I submitted myself to my kids first...they reluctantly showed me at least how to turn the computer on but neglected to tell me how to turn it off...oh...now I am going to ruin the computer.
So then I ask them how do I turn it off..."Oh Dad!"
With a few deft moves the computer is off...what did they do...I can't go back and ask them what they did.
What will they think of dear old Dad...mind you this is the guy that goes to his office and works on people's teeth.
Can't let them know that the computer is baffling their father.
So a couple of years go by and now I have a more tolerant granddaughter that teaches me the fundamentals so now I can get online and I can now do emails.
Cut and paste...what's that...my tolerant granddaughter taught me that...how to highlight and then right click...did not know you could do that.
But cut and paste did not always work ...I did not know that you had to put the little arrow on the area that you highlighted...a patient person in my MLM business told me how to be efficient in the art of cut and paste about a year ago.
So now I know enough to get on to facebook and talk to people and make friends in cyberspace.
Now that is really neat...until the computer fouls up and I can not get on the internet and talk to my friends ...some on the other side of the globe.
I find out that I have an addiction...to the computer and the internet...feels awful when I can't get on my computer and chat with someone.
Then comes the techno geek...I call him on the phone and he says we have to start the computer on safe mode...the last known good configuration...he walks me through that and ...viola...I am back on the internet...after 24 hours in a cold sweat.
See...I am one of those old timers that learned how to type on those old clackety machines...I think it was called Smith Corona...something like that. It was an optional class in high school...glad I took it.
I write this to show others that can actually remember WWII and President Roosevelt...that we too can be a part of this technical generation and even be an INTERNET NETWORK MARKETER.

You brought me back to 1980
Great article. You had be laughing and remember when I was thrown into the PC world in 1980.
I remember the old clackety manuel type writers!
Thank you DrPhil, you brought a smile to my face. Why? Because I can identify with what you shared. It's never to late to learn. It's a fun ride tackling the techy stuff, I know I am enjoying it....after I have pulled out my hair in the process. lol Great imaginative article. I loved it.
Oh Yea
My husband tells me I need a 12 step program to be able to be away from my laptop I'm so bad. But I also remember the fear when I first touched a computer and the first time I totally wiped one clean. Thank goodness my husband is the computer geek.Hangin with ya Doc.
You have to Keep Up with The Times
Im no stranger to the computer or internet but I dont know what I would do without it!
Thanks Dr.Phil!
So there is hope for the technologically challenged! Love the article!
Think what will be available 10 years from now...
Boggles the mind, don't it Zelphina?
A fun and "relatable" post!
I was an administrative assistant before Windows - when screens were an ugly blue with white type. There was no pointing and clicking in those days... you actually had to learn "DOS commands" to tell the computer what to do. But it was new to all of us back then and I learned along with everyone else. I thought it was cool that I didn't have to return a carriage every time the text reached the right margin - it just automatically wrapped to the next line and kept on going!! Amazing!
Thanks for reminding us that we CAN learn new things as life presents them (even my 93-year-old mother is on The Net!). So treat the "learning curve" as an adventure and enjoy the ride! This is NOT a dress rehearsal. :-D
I Was Clueless Until I Found A Mastermind Group!
It's incredible what we can learn over just a year. I knew how to check my email.... Honestly, I didn't even know how to google alittle over a year ago. But when you have a team of people working WITH you to have success, we can do ALL things! Great Article!
