Social Media Marketing & Social Media Networking - How To Create A Social Buzz And Demonstrate Higher Value In The Market Place

Truth moment - for social media marketing success, everything is contingent on the creation of high quality content.

This is content that speaks to your audience – it naturally serves their biggest problems, addresses their largest needs, and is seen as not overly promotional. That’s the first important criteria.

It’s also very important to be using proper keyword research (using keywords that appeal to your audience, and appeal to the search engines), and includes links that point – referred to as “inbound links” – to your most desired content real estate locations such as a blog. Social Media Marketing and Social Media Networking Work Together

The following is an example of how Social Media Networking and Social Media Marketing can work together:

You have a profile at Digg. You regularly Digg other people’s content and you have left comments and promoted other people’s content because you have seen value in it. You’ve also made relationships inside and outside of Digg with like-minded people.

This group of like-minded people is known as a network. Each person in this network has their own network and so and so forth.

So when you have high value content of your own, you go to Digg, and submit that content. People in the network that you’ve established vote for it.

And when people (a lot of people) vote for your content, it’s determined to be socially relevant. And the votes serve as evidence for the search engines. More and more, search engines are looking to social bookmarking sites like Digg or Social Median for social evidence. This can have a favorable outcome for content on the search engines.

Not Getting “Votes” With Your Social Media Campaigns?

It’s one of two things:

  1. You haven’t properly socially networked to make relationships and entered into “agreements” that help emphasize the worthiness of your content. So no matter how good it is, it won’t reach social buzz status.
  2. Your content doesn’t meet a need, fill a gap, or address a problem. Focus on really good content that speaks to your audience – not cookie cutter “review” content – but content that really speaks to your audience, like the kind of content that people look to for answers.

Checkpoint:

  • Does your social media content meet one of the three Es?

  • All content submitted to the social bookmarking locations will either be Educational, Enlightening or Entertaining?

Social Media Marketing Meets Search Engine Optimization

Continue syndicating your content to the various social media channels where you have properly socially networked, and established a community.

Again, this is important because it will increase your content’s visibility with votes and comments and then suddenly you’re going to rank for your keywords on the search engines.

This happens for two reasons:

  1. You have more and more incoming links because you’ve socially bookmarked your content at various locations; you’ve syndicated your content at social media sharing locations and linked back to your main central hub, and finally, in some cases, other people will link to your content if they see it demonstrate a high value of quality.

  2. This creates a social buzz thus rendering the content humanly relevant, which the search engines are increasingly responsive to.

This is where SEO evolves into social media, or vice versa. It’s also why using Social Media Networking to assist your Social Media Marketing is crucial to harnessing the power of attraction marketing as a whole.

This is exciting because you don’t have to focus so much on pure SEO.

Focus on your audience, prospects, customers, joint ventures and business collaborations by doing what you should be doing best – delivering high quality informational content to the people who need it.

This article was written for you to further understand the relationship between social media networking and social media marketing so you can use them to form a synergy of interconnectedness to significantly increase exposure to your content. If you do this enough, you will wear a path for your prospects and customers into your sales funnel process.

Wearing a Path

I Like the way you've explained how "wearing a path" could occur. The connection between social networking and social marketing seems quite clear when you walk thru the process.
And, the message "Focus on your audience" just seems so "common sense". We shouldn't make it so hard with all the technical stuff. Just please your audience.

Now Understanding Social Media Importance

It took me a while to really understand how social networking and social marketing really fit in together. Many think that if you have an account interacting with friends, that you shouldn't think about selling to them.
Well, if you have always brought value and are someone respected by your audience, why not sell to them as long as you don't make it a constant itch that needs to be scratched.
Many will appreciate the heads up and check it out and those that don't won't feel left out. It's a win win situation. Thanks Eric for painting a picture with simple brush strokes.

Add a fourth "E"

Our content does much better as you stated, when it is either Enlightening, Educational or Entertaining to receive a readership.

Consider a fourth "e", Exchange. As authors, and participants in the Social Media networks, the social buzz only happens when each of us participate consistently in the buzz created for other people as well. We need to exchange kudos, feedback and ideas regularly with others.

Eric, you understand this concept well and have done another great job being "Educational" and for that matter "Enlightening" :-).

The Fourth "E"

I agree Pat. The fourth "E" is Exchange, and that requires a give in order to earn the take. It's also the premise for the new currency that is being "exchanged" throughout the social web. This is the premise behind a "gift" economy.

Give People What they Are Looking /for

If you provide what people want they will follow you and want to establish a relationship with you. Give first and then you will receive.

Focus on your audience

You hit it Eric. It always gets back to the basics--give people what they want. Value based content. People will respond and you will be able to enjoy the process and the people you are serving.

I like the Connections

Eric,
I like the way you took topics that are often spoken about separately, and showed how important the synergy is between them. Knowing that I tend to compartmentalize some of these things, your article re-energizes the need to meld them together, both in my mind and in actuality.

Peace and Abundance,
Deborah

Value, Focus, and always using the basics.

Eric,
This article really helps with how to visualize the entire process of networking, marketing, and sales as a whole. It is easy to get caught up in the networking and miss the marketing opportunity through value based content.

Through the networking, it allows us to listen and understand what these people are looking for and needing and providing us with the opportunity to give them what they want. As said before from that point on social networking sites become the fishing pool.

The three plus one "E's" are also a great reference to keep in mind..

Social Media Marketing and Social Media Networking.

Eric,

Excellent article. I really liked what you said. It's great to provide good, relevant content through your social media marketing. But there must be focus on building relationships through social media networking to get the social buzz you want.

We must all focus on both social media marketing and social media networking to get the synergy you are talking about in your article.

Great reminder, Eric.

The Social Media Process

Hey Eric,

Your article clearly shows that Social Media Marketing is a Process with multiple components that are very reliant on one another. Trying to syndicate content without having established a presence in the communities is akin to spamming.

Once you do establish a presence, knowledge of how to effectively syndicate your content is also important, so they really do work together.

Of course, technology is making this process easier and easier. Still, with any new improvements, these fundamental principles will always apply. Thanks for sharing.

Its all about Relevancy

Is your content relevant to your target market? Is it educational, enlightening or entertaining. Follow these simple rules and social media marketing become a snap.

Building relationships within your favorite social networking sites is a huge part of this process as well. Remember people will always do business with someone they know and trust. Thanks for the tips Eric.

Give 'Em What They Want

Eric, Great article on the importance of the give and take in social networking. The more we focus on our audience and what they want by creating content they're interested in, the more they'll be interested in us and what we have to offer. Building trust and value is the key. Thanks for sharing your tips.
