Hashtags make it easy not only to find trending topics, but to also help with marketing and sales and tracking.
Watch out for 'Trending' topics, as become part of these can also help push your business in the twitter spotlight.
Klout scores - heard of them? This is a new phenomenon which looks at your 'social networking' activity across twitter, facebook and other social networks like myspace, bebo etc. Having a good klout score can also help boost your credentials.
Now all this may seem daunting if you do not have a twitter account, but take it slow. Go out there and create an account, don't be shy to set one up. Promote yourself, not your business on your twitter account. People 'add' people to their twitter friends not a business or a 'spammer'.
