OMG Facebook is rife with business opportunity 'Pitchers'

If you have spent any time on social media you will probably have been approached by well meaning network marketers wanting to recruit you into their business without having first build a relationship with you.

Recently while hanging out on Facebook I received a message from a young woman saying she had found me in an MLM group and wanted to connect with other entrepreneurs.

Great I thought, it is always nice to meet new people and share ideas.

The conversation started out friendly enough, you know the usual "what do you do" and  "where are you from"

And then it happened

She sent me the LINK!!!

The conversation had just got started and she had sent me the link already?

I had asked her what she did, however I did not request a link to join her business!

I followed up by asking her if she had heard of attraction marketing, she said no. I then asked her how this approach was working for her on Facebook. She did not respond.

I always remember the analogy of networkers prospecting in this way, promoting their business without building rapport or a relationship like asking someone to marry you on the first date.

It makes you look desperate and is very unattractive.

At least establish if the person is even open to looking at your opportunity before you ram it down their throat.

If you have ever been guilty of pitching your links to your Facebook friends or social media audience here are some great tips for using social media to prospect for business.

Create A Strategy

Plan on connecting with 5 - 10 new people everyday so that you can start a conversation. Your conversation should inform or impact, don't be boring! Share valuable information you have learnt and help solve a problem your new contact is experiencing.

  • Follow up daily by commenting on posts and 'liking' you new contacts content, be interactive and engage in relevant topics.
  • If you are able to be CONSISTENT and connect with 5 - 10 people everyday that could be 900 new contacts over a 90 day period. Just think for a moment what that could do for your business...
  • If you approach each new connection in this way you will become more attractive and come from a place of service offering value to people in need.

There are so many network marketers on social media in need of guidance on how to prospect for business. If you are reading this post you are in a position to help them and let them know pitching is for baseball....there is a better way!
