Attraction Marketing #5 - Twitter
At first glance Twitter looks like one of the stupidest ideas to come across the Net.
Why in hell would anyone want to send text messages to 10,000 people about the small, boring details of their unremarkable life?
Turns out, lots of people want to do exactly that.
Huh? Why?
Because it's fun.
At least it was fun, until every wanna be "Me Too!" marketer jumped on the Twitter bandwagon and turned it into yet another state fair midway full of sideshow barkers and flashing lights. The only things missing are the calliope music and the smell of funnel cakes wafting through the air.
You will never stand out in the Twitter crowd by trying to toot your horn louder than the next guy with the latest greatest money making opportunity to hit the blogosphere. Everyone and their brother is out there posting stupid quotes, and tired old marketing BS that everyone who's been online for more than 2 weeks has already heard.
So how do you use Twitter?
How do you market there?
In other words, can you use specific techniques to get people who read your posts on Twitter to send you money?
Yep.
But you can't use the head-on approach.
If you send someone a tweet that leads directly to a sales page, your bounce rate will be astronomical. Nobody wants to go from a 140 character blurb straight to a full-blown sales presentation. It aggravates them. So don't do it.
Instead, you can just send out a tweet when something interesting happens to you or when you've learned something new and wrote an article or made a video about it. It doesn't even have to be profound. Just be interesting. To yourself. The people that like the same stuff you do will be more than happy to check out what you've come up with.
Side note:
I'd advise staying away from quotes. They're so overdone it's become background noise. If you want to prove to everyone that you've got nothing to say, just post quotes every day. Yuck.
If they really like what you show them, they'll start looking for more. They'll wanna stop by your blog, read your articles and watch your videos. If they're impressed enough, they'll tell their friends about you. Now you're cookin'.
Because once people become accustomed to the idea that you've got stuff that's interesting to them, they'll be happy to click your links every time you send them one. Since you're a marketer, they're probably interested in marketing too. Eventually, they'll get an email from you or click a link on your blog that takes them to one of your money sites. Since they already see you as someone with valuable information, they won't feel as if you're just trying to cram something down their throat so you can make a few bucks. If your sales page is effective, they'll buy, and you'll make some money.
And isn't that the reason you wanted to hang out on Twitter anyway?
