The Beginners Guide To Creating A Killer Facebook Fan Page – (Part One)

Read More: Social Networking

"I actually wasn't thinking about it in terms of a social impact. It was really about helping people connect around a sphere of interest so they could do business.!

Pierre Omidyar - founder/chairman of the eBay auction site

Today, you have so many options that it boggles the mind. It is easy to use different social media mediums and not master any.

For example, Facebook Fan Pages has so much to offer. With it, you can customise your fan page to how you want it.

Yes, even make it look like a website.

You can add newsletters, provide special offers, coupons, video, leading your prospects from one place to another.

But what's the reason in using facebook anyway?

The Beginners Guide To Creating A Killer Facebook Fan Page...

Creating Facebook Fan Page is free but this shouldn’t be the reason why we take the step in creating one.

facebook fan page and internet marketing to social media marketing
Facebook can become one of the steps to use for building relationships, provide another avenue for your prospects to have an experience, and to reveal your branding reach on the web. If you keep away from pratting about with playing those games. Hahaha.

There is one mistake to avoid.

Facebook has full control to shut down and close anyone’s account.
It's not owned by you or me. Instead of putting 100% time on facebook and other mediums such as twitter -  focus in making them a process and not the end of all things.
By getting your prospects to do some work.
By getting them to share to their friends. By leading your prospects right back to your nerve centre blog. That's your asset you own and have full control.
Bear this in mind whenever you use Facebook and any social media tools.

Can You Make A Fan Page Look Like A Website?

Yes. With Facebook - you can add a box to your Fan page and you can render it and add HTML/CSS or FBML (Facebook Mark Up Language).
You can also name your tabs and swop your tabs.

Your Facebook Fan Page can have an interactive feel, hooking your audience with videos, RSS feeds from your blog, or links that directs them from one fan page to another.

And you can add your own form. It doesn’t have to be a newsletter optin form. It can be a form that asks for more info to help your prospects but you’ll need an offer that they need, and difficult to refuse.

For me personally, I'm studying Facebook and using Fan Page to exceed the limitations of mediocre. It's been amazing. We're creating amazing fan pages exactly the way we want it.

Here's an example of Dean McNamara fan page I've designed and built because he won the Killer Facebook Fan Page Competition.

It is time consuming if you want to stand out from the many pages with a background, video and optin form. Most businesses want to do more. More pages, linking to each page, adding social media icons, RSS feeds and even voting or cotact forms to find more from their prospects. They are willing to pay the big bucks and I do charge from $2,000- $5,000. Not for the hobby business mindset, I assure you.

You can do much more with Facebook Fan Pages..

There are many companies using Facebook and they have invested time, money and strategy to get it right.
By searching on Google – you’ll find reviews on fan pages like Dunkin Donuts, Pizza Hut, Coca Cola, Adidas, and Pink.  Check out the Killer Facebook Fan Pages - 5 Inspiring Cases by Callan Green.

Callan did one heck of write up that will for real inspire you.

Here's Where It Gets Really Interesting...

Dunkin Donuts didn't just put an image on the Fan Page Facebook but they also created a character who is called Maurice. It's Interactive and when the video is finished, it has different calls of actions.

The first button isn't "get a Dunkin Donut." It's post a comment on the wall. Now look at the other buttons. It's about getting the prospect, fans, customers to do the talking for the company.

Take a look at Pizza Hut..
facebook killer app
You' see how they have a Killer App, where people can order their meal on facebook or using their own phone. What special offer or smooth ordering, or exciting, call of action, building relationship process can you add to your fan page?

Then there's Pink. The name, the colour, the theme, everything is consistent. They've also added a video and details of their next event.

The Fast Approach To Creating Killer FaceBook Page

FBML facebook applicationYou can add applications (apps) and share youtube videos, RSS feeds from your blog onto your facebook fan page.
You can also page split in any design you wish and incorporate flash style navigation. It’s all down to your imagination, knowledge and skill. Or you can outsource the work.

There’s more to it when it comes to HTML and FMBL because some may think, you just grab any code and paste.
You'll face some problems right there because you're image won't show up and nor will your video. We'll look at why this happens in the next article.
I've been indated with emails, pm's on why images don't show up, videos don't show up, the youtube videos when incorporated using Dreamweaver doesn't show up.
To why a person can't see the tab they've created and much more.

I should have kept my mouth shut Hahaha but I enjoyed these questions because it enabled me to stretch further, find the solution, create the steps myself and increase my value to provide these skills as services.

For information my Fan Page is:

Anyine who needs advice on how to actually create the Welcome tab which is what Dunkin Donuts have and an opt in page to an FBLEADS list on your auto responder then look out for my step-by-step videos.

Unless Adam beats me to them as well:)

Hey Adam,

I am new to all this,and now I understand how come all these big companies are on Fb. Makes a lot of scents.

Keep it coming!

steve kostoff — Sat, 03/13/2010 - 10:43am

Thanks for the great tips

Hi Adam,

I appreciate your tips on ways to improve using Face Book and particularly the examples of the large companies and celebs. I also heed your words that FB has the control and can shut you down if they choose so don't count on something you can't control, get people to your blog and continue the relationship there! Smart!

Thank you!

Wow, now this is awesome!

Wow. I've been blown away with your coolness everyone. I'm loving the responses.

I am so loving doing this series and what it has done, is just amazing. It's buzzing people!

@Ginger Hogue - thanks mate. Hahaha, Mafia wars. Yeah, you right on that. So much more. It's amazing tool and it can be interactive as well. I don't just mean videos but literally have images move, talk do all sorts. Great to see you're loving it.

@Andrew Peel, hey buddy, how you doing mate.

Go ahead mate, give whatever you can. I don't mind. Even, if I have done it - share. Something may click that I may have missed or maybe, I may not be a person they connect with or understand my lingo.

So go ahead Andrew Peel, it be cool to have people share their videos, their links. Go for it!

@Derek Alvarez, great to see someone is a big fan of facebook. If there are tips mate, share them here. Be cool to hear what you're doing. Part three has been uploaded. Part 4 is coming.

@annalaura brown
Thanks for that mate. Do you mean SKYPE? Or something else?

@Tristan Richards, thanks dude. Ah if you're getting maxed out then for sure, fan page.

I personally try my best to keep my personal one very, very low or I can't see what my son is saying on my wall much. Plus I want mostly family and very, very close people I know.

Good idea to sort fan page. Brill.

@Irvon (Bud) Corwin — Hey, how you doing Irvon? Cool to have you here. Part 2 and 3 are there, bottom of article. Go for it. Part 4 coming!

@steve kostoff, hey steve, great to see you know what I mean mate. Yes, for real. If these big companies are using facebook, then so we need to. By keeping out on the big boys and gals, we kind of see what is happening. Plus, we don't need to be famous or big. We can give the "personal one to one touch" too!

We have an advantage and we keep it real.

@Tracy Monteforte, HiTracy! Got it one mate. We have to be careful when focusing all our energies on twitter, facebook and any other that we don't "own." They great tools and as you mentioned, it's smart leading people right back to the real deal, our home, hub...the BLOG, nerve centre! And make that real hot place and buzzing. Great to have yah following the series!

Part 2, 3 are now up! Part 4 is coming.

Using FaceBook cautiously

Great comment Adam, and by the way nice to meet you. Well, for mi this is an eye opener because I will have to be more careful when trying to put material on FB related to promote my business and system.
Thanks a lot and Blessings

Jose Lasa

Jose Lasa — Sat, 03/13/2010 - 8:25pm

Hey Jose

Great to have you here mate.

Yes, definitely use Facebook Fan pages for business. There is less restrictions, plus, I feel it's best to keep business far away from friends, families.

I do on purpose keep my personal page very low in number. On fan page the number can be as high as one wants but personal facebook page I feel it's best to leave it as for that - friends, families, close people.

If they want to know one can always leave a link somewhere on your info tab, and lead them to the fan page.

But there are other ways too strategically I'll show on following series.

Thanks Everyone..More To Come..

@Deborah Long
Thanks mate. Part 1,2,3,4,5 are now uploaded. Plus, how to block Games, Spammers. Enjoy and more to come.

@Volker Schaefer
There's much more to come mate. Much more. Even though I've been at it now for sometime, I still find some amazing things you can do with Facebook Fan Pages.

@Neal Homes
Glad you liked the simplicity. Wanted to just keep simple, comprehensive. There's so much you can do with Facebook Fan Pages. I'll be covering much more on

@Jerome Ratliff
Yes, very true. Far too many try and attract leads on Facebook without first raising their own credibility, giving, showing value.

Until they do, it's best to stick to to attract Leads, Traffic, I'd advise use SEO, Google Adwords PPC etc. For reason that social media is about building relationships with existing prospects.

They then attract leads to the facebook platform. That's working smart. Then moving the list from PPC etc, after building some authority, one can lead to facebook to show online presence, and authority.

I feel the person must first raise their value. Then give first, get people to see one's own value and then the people come chasing. At moment many do it other way round.

Unfortunately people doing it other way round and mess up. I use Facebook to build relationships and even with email marketing - I first gave and gave a heck of lot before the trust was built.

So yes, stay true to provide value to the community. Give this time to enhance ones credibility. Give and let people see our value.

@Jane C. Anene
My pleasure Jane. So much more and I'll cover how you can add PDF files onto facebook fan pages in the series. Use them to give value, direct back to block with links in the ebook. Foremost, lead with value.

Build relationships and most of all use others for traffic and use facebook to build relationships and online presence. Giving the greater reach and personal branding, which starts by people talking about us.

Branding isn't what we say but what the people say about us when we leave the room.

@Ray Bundulis
Great to see you're having fun with facebook.

@Rocky Roo
My pleasure. Well, if you're cuter than a coffee bean, let's see your face. Hahaha.
