Filter Your Social Network: Find The 20% That Really Listens!
Up until recently, I had never used the Events feature of Facebook, mainly because I had no events to promote, but a recent study showed that despite the size of your network, only a very small percentage of that network will ever interact in a way to create strong relationships, whether personal or business.
When I thought about it, I realized that even though my network seems to grow daily, I only communicate with the same people that were already in my social circle, or that I had already previously met, therefore had a relationship prior to social networking.
Then a light bulb appeared on top of my head and I started thinking...
How Can I Solidify New Relationships and Use Facebook as a Relationship Builder?
I do, like most Facebook users, update my status quite regularly, and I have my blog's RSS feed going straight into my FB profile (learn how here) but that is quite selfish.
Selfish because it doesnt affect anybody but me - it does not create interaction, and it does not offer any benefit to my network.
As an attraction marketing fan, I understand the concept of value-based relationship creation, where one has to offer its best in order to attract people/customers. So I decided to start offering my network the chance to test their relation to me, by creating a new Event and sending invitations to my entire network.
The event in question was a live interview I was hosting, and I made the entire thing free and open to the public, so that I could invite all my Facebook friends.
This strategy worked out beautifully because now I was able to filter not only those who I was benefitting (because they will attend it) but also those who pay attention to my announcements (they answered the invitation with a maybe or no).
The event acted as a filter, and I was able to find the small percentage of people with whom I can focus on strenthening connections.
Syndicating Relationship-Building
Because the attendees can also promote the event to their network, the syndication of content reacts on many different social circles and rapidly expands not only the reach of my programmed event, but my network.
