Wow Do not Sell a Thing Just Let them Come they will Buy
You are so right we all love to shop but we do not like to be sold.
Just Share yourself and be interested in others. They will come. Make your self available and Real, they will come. How cool is that. You receive only those that want what you have. I love it Juanita
so right!
Ditto what Juanita said....we do not like to be sold!
Great wisdom spoken with clarity! Thanks for the article, Nick!
How many times have we heard...
that people will buy from you if
they know, like and trust you?
Relationship has to come first!
Great article...thanks for the reminder.
Well Said!
I have written the same thing repeatedly!
The fact is, the progression is contact, relationship, bond, sale. Anything else corrupts the process and you end up just one more social media mugger!
A social media mugging is a link on the very first contact.
A social media mugging is a link in the direct message and the individual doesn't even have the class to follow you back...simply take the opportunity to spam you!
A social media mugging is a direct reply, an @reply from a spammer who has set up page after page for the purposes of spamming the rest of us!
A social media mugging is someone who follows anyone, just to get their 1000 per day!
I social media mugging is......
The sad thing is much of social media has become little more than a running billboard for the next-best opportunity!
It's about relationships, the relationships building into a bond, and the bond resulting in trust, the trust developing as a consequence of the progression towards friendship.
Timely and always appropriate topic!

Great Post
I hope Twitter tightens it's spam rules and demands a big sweep clean up...many are compainling their time lines are getting cluttered with "buy my stuff" links... Facebook too!
Don't people understand what "Social" Means????? Well for those that do...we need to realize there is a ton of opportunity in teaching SMM with love!

Well, said, you would not try to sell your toothpaste at the big social event of the year!! Use good judgement and share good ideas to help someone else!!

Great post
I find myself removing friends on all of my social networks who are constantly just posting affiliate links and offers. Yet, I find myself conversing more and more with people who are posting interesting articles/videos/etc.
By learning to share your interests with others, relationships are developed quickly. We just need to remember that everyone out there is just like you, they HATE to be sold but love to buy. Keep providing good information & develop friendships and people will LOVE to buy from YOU!

Why do so few get it?
In this venue, we have 100% agreement on what is obvious. What I really don't understand is why, when it doesn't work, such an overwhelming large majority of participants continue to do it. It would seem like they would tire. Let's all hope that happens sooner rather than later.
Great article.
Amen To That !
Nicholas,
Totally agree with you man.
I've been writing & teaching the same thing for months. Interestingly many people still don't get it.
Lou Smith's post mentions that this ineffective method or use of social media should be obvious.
Since nobody is born knowing how to do this , it creates tremendous oppoptunity for those of us to coach , mentor , and train others in the correct use of this powerful venue.
Of course this makes ALL who do this stand out or what we call your USP in the industry.
John Zajaros comments about a social media mugger summarizes this very well.
Because I've seen this to be a problem & wanted to help others get it I recently created a video posted at my YouTube Channel that goes deeper into this same topic , entitled:Social Media Marketing | Warren Little | "The 7 Laws of Social Networking Marketing Success"
Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7tkukoto48
This short video expands on this subject & I've been told has helped 100's of people succefully make the transition mentally from "pitching" to adding value in every life they touch on social media.
Great, empowering post Nicholas !

Value and content ALWAYS out does selling
Yes, it is true that Twitter is Littered with spam and just plain hype that is so tired and worn out.
Same with Facebook.
And yet I make contacts and sponsor people every month from these two great outlets.
And, I never lead with opportunity. It's about content and solving a need for the OTHER person.
Who would want to sign up with someone screaming about how much they are making when you KNOW that those making that type of income don't crow about it?!
EXPECT Success!

"NO" sell in Social Media
I agree more each day with this, some from experiences learned and now just this past week, "I" was on the receiving end of someone who recently went aggressive, so I had to delete them. The good news out of this experience was I learned first hand what I had lightly started to do, and now have it imprinted NOT TO EVEN TRY IT ! WAHOOOO
Sales resistant vaccine needed..
To cure the viral infection that goes down on Twitter these days. Do people really think their links will be looked at, lost in a sea of links?
Couldn't agree more
Every time I was sold, especially online. It was because I had built up a relationship with the person. And now that I have come to learn this. I don't like products or services shoved in my face. When I joined the company I market I was sold on it before I knew my sponsor. He didn't have to do anything but welcome me. When I learned Brian Tracy was involved I was sold. I was sold on Mr. Tracy because of prior programs of his. The relationship was already there :-)
Understanding Social networking
You have to understand! Most People on social networking sites are trying to advertise there business, That's why social media has become so demanding, That's what great about betternetworkers and people like Nicholas moniz is providing a better understanding, they are providing help and a little training to access to understand how to go about handling this problem, We need more of this, "Great post"
and very good comments about this issue, Help point people in the right direction, One step at a time!
That's right! Use Social Media Networking for contacts...
Well said! In business it's important who you know and to stay in contact!
Can sell using traditional models either
Your article is really on point. No one seems to want to be sold anything. Everyone seems to want to establish a relationship of trust before they try or buy anything. Now with social media, you cannot sell anything on the Internet using the traditional methods. Very on point article.
Great Comments
Everyone seems to be on the same page with this idea. I like the one, "I like to shop, not be sold!" Thanks
You can only sucessfully sell yourself
You have add value to a community before you can expect to be paid in return. Social Media is like a party at someone's house: if you show up at the porch with a sales pitch, you will not be let into the party. ;)
Likewise, you don't first introduce yourself to people with a sales pitch.

Soo True
It has been said so many times but people just do not seem to get the message. I noticed some of the members who have commented on this post also adding their web site links at the end :-(
Have fun

Excellent Information
I don't know how many times I have to hear this. I try not to sell - but sometimes it takes all I can do not to. I start feeling desperate because I don't have the sales or leads I think I should have by now. That's what throws me into panic - doing something dumb mode. Fortunately I haven't done that - at least I don't think so.
Have a great day,
Bridget
GREAT ARTICLE, SOCIAL MEDIA IS ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS AND VALUE
If you want to sell anything on Social Media, Sell yourself, Give people value, give people a reason to want to connect with you. All interesting and great comments.
Excellent write up
Social Media is only about establishing connections and building relationships; share valuable information with others; people are thursty for information and knowledge. Genuinely Give and you shall receive.
Douglas Escobar
That is so true
I've been using twitter to make friends and find lots of spamming every second of people just doing advertising instead of building relationships or sharing valuable information.
Great Information
I agree with you people.Social Media is not the platform where you should sell your products.People tend to use it as they have time limit to achieve their sales target and without putting a thought to what they starts posting to whoever and wherever they can.If they think and put little efforts in finding the people who are equally interested in their business they are not only able to do business but also there bond, a trust created between them for the lifetime.

Ishika Mathew

How Many Different Ways Can It Be Said!?!
If everyone could just think of writing one informative or up-lifting thought everyday it could help everyone achieve & hold those positive thoughts we all need to have to achieve what we want! Anyone ever watched "The Secret"? It's an empowering movie to say the least!

Great Point on not selling.
When you sell most people and your friends run away from you.
Building Relationship First and the Rest Will Follow
Well stated, and well put. I realize I have to deactivate any videos I may have on video sites that are linked to any of my social networks. I'm one to agree that people do not like to be sold to, just the same, as I don't like to be sold to, or you. We should put ourselves into the prospects shoes when we decide to sell our opportunity as a reminder that this is a no...no. Social Medias are for building friendship, loyalty and relationship, and it should stay that way. Sometimes it takes a reminder that we have drifted into the zone that is prohibited "Selling" "Selling" "Selling" on social medias. Wake up folks, social medias are for just what Nick said. Well stated, and well put. Great Job Man!
So True My Friend So True
Twitter is the same Paul as BetterNetwork and a few other social networks I'm participating in. People don't like links nor do they click them. It took me a minute to realize most folks just don't click on your links...so what's the purpose of offering a link? Social Networks are for just what the word say's "Social Network". Thanks Paul for your words of wisdom.
