How To Set Up A Facebook Page Properly For Your Business
As we grow deeper and deeper into the world of social networking marketing, everyone is attempting to market their business or product through Facebook, Twiiter, Myspace and any other social networking sites out there, and, trust me, there are plenty. This phenomenom of social networking marketing has become a serious player when it comes to attracting people to yourself and your business. But it's not surprising to see so many people and business folk alike going about their social netowrk marketing business the wrong way. In this article, I'm going to show you how to go about your business on your Facebook Page so that you do build trust in your fans and attract quality people to your business.
Back in July when Facebook had 250 million users we all knew it wouldn’t be long until that number grew to 300 million. Well it’s official as of September 15, 2009 Facebook announced that they have 300 million users. So what now? Well, I guarantee Facebook is not going to stop growing…people love the Facebook community too much and everyone is talking about it.
With all of these people on Facebook naturally a competitive nature has been born. Marketers aka people that are out there promoting a Facebook Page are all racing to get as many fans as possible. Why? Well, people look at the number of fans a Facebook Page has as a direct measure of success. We were first exposed to this concept when Ashton Kutcher challenged CNN to a race to 1 million followers Twitter (Ashton won by the way). All of the sudden we all wanted thousands and thousands of followers on twitter too. The race was on, and it’s happening in the Facebook world now too.
This may come as a surprise to some of you, but looking at the number of fans a Facebook Page has is not the most important stat to measure success. If you only concern yourself with the numbers, your marketing plan will be completely empty and get you nowhere. Here are some important questions to ask yourself, “Are you authentically transparent in your communication? Are your interactions useful to other people? Are you providing value and are your fans talking about you away from your page?” Here are some basic guidelines that will help you create a strong fan following and have you answering yes to these questions in no time:
1) Be sure to make your presence known as an author. People want to know who is running and writing on the page.
2) If you’re a part of a larger organization be sure to share your title or position within the organization.
3) Let your fans know the location you’re writing from…the state, city, etc
4) If you have other content on the web, let your fans know. Do your write blogs? Articles?
5) If you’re attending an event or taking a trip let your fans in on the details. Can other people attend? Can your fans meet you there?
6) Keep your fans engaged by asking questions. Get feedback about real issues and challenges that you’re having…be human.
7) Provide your fans with a way to tell their story. Keep it consistent with the theme of your page.
There has to be a plan when you are heading over to Facebook to create a Facebook Page. Don’t be fooled by the numbers and think you can just plant yourself in the middle of 300 Million people and everything will be okay…it doesn’t work that way. Think about what people want – think about what you would want – and take the extra time to provide it. If you’re wondering if it’s worth your time, let me remind you that the service is totally free, it just take a little concentrated effort. This is time well spent and can turn a serious profit for any business no matter what the size, product, or marketing budget.
