Is Your Facebook Profile Link A Hot Mess?

It is undeniable that Facebook is the leader in social marketing.  What started as a medium for college students to communicate has grown into a multi-million dollar empire where it’s a must for anyone who is networking or promoting a business to have a profile.

Directing traffic to your profile, however, has been a bit of a challenge.  Facebook users have had three options for sharing their profile with others: 1) Profile searches, if you’re lucky you’ll only have to go through 5-6 pages to find the person you’re searching 2) Send a long link to your profile 3) Shrink the long link to your profile using tinyurl.com or a similar service.

These methods were effective when communicating via email, but about your profiles on other networking site?  How do you get your Facebook profile out there? Since the long link has too many characters for most sites, you were forced to use a URL shortener.  URL shorteners have their place,  but on a profile…its just a hot mess.

Fortunately those days are gone; Facebook has developed an application where you can create your own Memorable Web Address.  Users now have the ability to use a web of their choice that will go directly to your profile page.  It’s cleaner and more professional than the methods previously used.
To use Facebooks’ Memorable Web Address application, follow the instructions below:
1    Go to http://apps.facebook.com/webaddress/
2    Select “Click here to add ‘Memorable Web Address’ application underneath towards the center of the page
3    Select the Add to Info option
4    Select Add
5    Choose Keep
6    Once directed back to your profile select edit (place cursor to the right corner of the Memorable Web address section
7    Choose Edit Information
8    Select the add/change memorable web address link (the second link)
9    Under the Choose a Free Web Address for your personal Facebook Profile, select  “click here to create one”
10    Click the Allow Sharing button
11    Choose your options
12    Click Create my web address
13    Select Save search profile (if applicable)
14     Enter your personal options,
15    Your Memorable Web Address: http://profile.to/edithmonfort will appear, select Publish or Skip in the dialogue box to complete the new web address
