Polylingual world
To start learning with terra linguas, language students first choose the language they are most comfortable speaking and listening to by clicking on your country's flag. Next, choose the language you wish to learn; again, by clicking on a flag. The final option is to select what you want to learn. terra linguas offers two types of lessons; vocabulary and conversational. Choosing either of these displays a list of categories to choose from. Finally click Play!
terra linguas does not require language students to continually interact with the lesson material. Perfect for anyone that has very little time, terra linguas students can define a custom lesson as above and then do whatever they wish. Work, cook, exercise, or even sleep. Anywhere you would have a TV or radio playing is perfect for learning a language with terra linguas, although it does require an internet connection. Licensing agreements are available.
terra linguas also has features to help language students become confident in there new language. One of these is the ability for students to control the playback speed of the native language speaker. For new students it can be difficult to discern the words of a sentence. By slowing the playback speed of the lesson material, new students can identify individual words and nuances of the pronunciation. As the student's ability improve, the speed can be increased. This gives the student the confidence to know that no matter how fast a speaker talks to them, they will be able to keep up.
Another feature relates to what may be a new student's most crucial period after beginning to learn a new language. For many, the first time they may rely on the new language is at an airport or train station in that foreign country. The stress of traveling with the need to connect to another leg of the travel itinerary can demand intense concentration. Add to this poor building acoustics and loud background noise levels, it can create a situation that causes frustration. terra linguas offers students a choice of background noises that they are likely to encounter in their travel experiences. Seven different types of background noises are available with user adjustable levels. The different types range from peaceful to intense.
Conversation lessons do not simply repeat the same material over and over, but rather expose language students to a real life variety of what native speakers are likely to say in a conversation. Not only does this expose students to many different similar conversations, but it teaches the student HOW to listen to their new language. Not only does each language have a rhythm, but someone the new student meets is unlikely to follow a script!
terra linguas currently has approximately 18,000 words and/or sentences in each of 13 languages all spoken by native speakers. The sheer quantity of information contained also gives language students the confidence to know that when faced with common words and sentences, they have probably heard them before and it is simply a matter of recalling them. Of course this is not always that simple! BTW, Spanish contains 94,613 recordings, so 18,000 is pretty much a minimum available!
terra linguas offers a chat room environment (free registration required) to help those that know, or want to know, a language a way to connect. terra linguas forums are also available for each available language (free registration required).
Finally, as many unique features as terra linguas offers currently (for FREE), we have plans that we keep our users evolving for another 26 versions! Really!
