Social Marketing And The Social Media Manager

Who Is Your Social Media Manager?

Social marketing always existed as part of the internet marketing game plan but suddenly the role of social media manager is becoming more profitable. Originally email was the primary online form of social marketing but social media sites are reshaping how both traditional and home business owners expand.

The term ‘earned media’ refers to sharing business information between ‘friends’ online. Hiring a manager to accomplish this goal is consistently demonstrating a hire ROI than TV and radio advertising. Business brands, reputations, products or services are shared over social media and the social media manager ensures that the discussion keeps going and the crowd keeps growing.

Advertising budgets dedicated to increasing social recognition through paid ads on social media sites are not only cost effective but have the potential of going viral. As with most online advertising the audience is highly targeted and the environment is designed around sharing information.

A Whole New Era

Traditional small business owners already understand how specific they can focus their ad dollars online. What social marketing now offers are complete campaigns and funnels within the social media realm including mobile e-commerce.

Several years ago if someone asked if I’d seen this or that commercial on TV the answer probably would have been yes. Today we’re almost completely anesthetized from having to put up with interruption marketing unless we’re watching programs online; I don’t even see the super bowl ads unless I’m on youtube.

The internet empowers consumers to find exactly what they want, when they want it and business owners can speak to people who have an interest in them. Earned media is creating an explosion of awareness across networks like Facebook from conversations introduced by a social media manager.

Hype Replaced By Emotion

Buying is always emotional and social networks are perfect little incubators for engaging friends and friends of friends. Friends always want to know what and why you like something because they already share an emotional connection to you. Talking about something you’ve purchased is always a cause for discussion. Even talking about something you’re thinking of purchasing can create a buzz.

Sharing information with friends is natural if not contagious. The only thing more exciting than hearing new information for the first time is telling it to someone who hasn’t heard it yet; or all of your friends at once.

Stories sell and social media is a story telling playground. If your social media manager likes to tell stories, work becomes play and everyone is happy. To share a story online usually requires one click and making that first click is what starts the viral process.
