Social Networking Sites – Love them or Hate them? Positive or Negative? YOU decide!

Confession time. I’m an Internet Addict. I used to be addicted to Facebook, chat rooms, Social Networking Sites. Hours have been lost, days at a time. Looking for connections. Looking for love in all the wrong places. Craving Acceptance.

Social Media can be such a time waster. Everything is so instant. Constant Messaging. Chat. Seeking the perfect connection. In post I hate my iPhone, MacBook and iPad I talk about some of the battles with them and in Not more Productivity Software! I’m overwhelmed enough a fantastic tool I have used to help me with this.

So, positive or negative?  Love or Hate Social Networking Sites?   Where do I stand?

Well I used to love them, but one thing I noticed is how ‘negative’ they can be and how draining that can be.

I have never understood people who air their dirty linen in public on Facebook.   Couple have fights, people talk about others, relationship statuses are constantly updated.    People update their every move.   Is it really necessary?

Yeah I admit I did the updating my every move at times, but usually tongue in cheek or when  I was home alone and bored.

So too be honest, although I have made some brilliant online friends in the past, many of my online experiences through Social Media Sites were negative and time draining.

And now?

Now I love them.  For me, they are oozing positivity.   I am inspired.   Love my connections.   Am providing value for others, appreciating others and feeling appreciated myself.

So what’s made the difference?

Being ill and off work with stress!   Was so easy to get down, depressed, sleep, fed up.

Luckily I used my time wisely.  Gave myself a shake.  I joined a wonderful community of people who connect on line, share tips and tools, and gives me access to LOADS of online training I have used to connect with people and market my business online.

Yeah, it can take it’s time, but this is having a MAJOR positive effect on my life?

Why?

Because I am talking to positive people, people who don’t judge, people who are being real and appreciate me doing it.  I blogged about suffering from stress, I had some lovely, connecting messages and comments from people I knew and didn’t know.  When my friend committed suicide, I had some lovely messages again, and then same when I was returning to work after  a period of illness.

So I suppose I am discovering several things:

That there are lovely, positive people online who want to connect and work with others.

That Attraction Marketing Really Works!   People I don’t know are coming to me!   People are commenting on my blog, requesting me as a friend and encouraging me.  

People are valuing me

People are sharing their experiences and tools and helping me.
