The DO’s and DON’ts of Social Media in Network Marketing
Social Media can be a great way to grow your network marketing business.
It doesn’t matter which type of Social Media you are using whether it is
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, there are many different networks
to chose from.
No matter which type of Social Media you choose, remember your online
personality is not only part of your overall brand, it becomes an
interactive experience for you and your business
There are different combinations that you can use to make
your online presence known.
Here is a list of some Do’s and Don’ts of Social Media to help
promote yourself and cut your overall time online.
When one minute turns into one hour and BEYOND…
Have you ever checked your Facebook account and before you know it
you’ve spent the past three hours playing Bejeweled? You need to focus
on using it to build your business NOT playing games and wasting time.
You should use your time building up your profile, creating your fan page
and building relationships with other network marketers.
DON’T spend all your time doing everything that you never planned on doing,
that includes getting caught up with all the applications that just cause
distractions.
DO make connections with people in your niche, this will
help you build a STRONG social network. It’s a great
opportunity to learn from others around you, especially the heavy hitters
in your Industry. It also gives you a chance to socialize with others and
not make it look like your always trying to MAKE A DEAL or SELL
SOMETHING.
DON’T forget about the other person. There are many times when you
would make a connection and right away not take the time to get to know
that person. You do make to learn about the person you are connecting
with. This is something you can do by:
- Reading their profile, it is important to learn about them.
- Writing something on their wall
- Take the time to make a video introduction
- You don’t want to spam others wall with advertising yourself
DO remember there are people around. SO…be careful what you
write on people’s walls, pictures that you are posting and the
groups you are joining. You don’t want the wrong information
out there, it can damage your reputation.
YOU CAN make your profile private, but that really does
defeat the purpose of using Social Media.
It is extremely important to consider what you should and
shouldn’t do when using Social Media to build your network
marketing business. The main idea is to continue using your
current methods and slowly incorporate your Facebook
and Twitter tactics.
And remember…YOU control what you will share in your account,
it can make a HUGE difference in your business when promoting
yourself and spend your time wisely.
Enjoy and have a wonderful day!

Very sound advice!
Very sound advice, Tommy!
Ha, although I love Bejeweled, I never played it on FB, LOL. It's just not the time or place for it.
When I'm there I check what's new with my friends ... post an update ... say hello ... share something of value (other people's blog posts are great for that) ... or make new connections.
Great article!
Have an awesome week!
Ilka
The Social Media Vampire!
You got it Tommy.
I love Twitter,Facebook, and Blogging but if you
aren't careful they suck your time away. :-(
Make Connections...
Hi Ilka,
Make connections on social media can help leverage
your blog. I am trying to use a fan page to do this
and in less than a week, the fan page has been growing.
I used to get sucked in but now I have a grip
on it, lol.
Have a great week Ilka,
Tommy
"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in"
Hey J,
A few years back I started on Myspace. I would check
my messages and 4 hours later, I couldn't believe all
the time I wasted.
I have my priorities straight and limit my time
on Social Media. You can spend more time on
these sites only if you are getting productive
use out of the site. BetterNetworker is a
good excuse to spend the day on it because
of the excellent content and training material.
Have a good day!
Tommy
It is easy to get caught up
It is easy to get caught up in these social media sites, You'll be on there and in no time 2-3-4 hours have past and you haven't accomplished anything...Thanks
You are so right, Tommy!
You are so right, Tommy! I've been meaning to put up a fan page on Facebook but haven't got around to it yet.
I'm happy to hear that yours is working out so well for you.
Keep it up!
Personalize it
I couldn't agree with you more on getting to know your audience. It's a great idea to leave wall post and comments to your audience. Once in a while you run into the fan page and all their doing is trying to sell sell sell. After a while that gets annoying. Putting the social aspect before sales is sometimes the right idea.
Great info!
Write a plan what you plan
Write a plan what you plan to accomplish so you don't get distracted. One of the most important factors is to provide value to your network and well as build relationships with your list

You are so right...
Hey Tristan,
Almost everyone I talk to has that same
problem, wasting not just an hour but
3 hours. It's easy to get caught up.
Tommy
FB Fan Page
Hey Ilka,
The cool part of my Fan Page is
I was able to add my RSS Feed from
my blog.
I also added a box to my actual
blog, so it gives my blog viewers
and "fans" a chance to connect
both ways.
I hear you loud and clear...
Hi Tony,
I do see that often that every time I connect
someone is trying to sell something or trying
to get me to sign up for their opportunity.
My Fan Page is a Fan Page for my Blog, so
really it is an update of what I am writing
about. Sometimes there is an affiliate offer
BUT nothing like I get, I have 1200 unread emails
from people selling or trying to get me to join their
social media company, or spend $25 to make xxx offer.
great spin on it...
Hi Chris,
That is what I try to do is follow a plan (making
a list). If I am going on Facebook, I write down
an 8-9pm on Facebook.
I write down the specifics on what I will be doing
on Facebook. Don't get me wrong, if I am checking
Facebook for pleasure, I have no problem wasting time
but if I am working then I follow my plan.
Social media time suckers
Great advice Tommy! It is true these social networks can suck up our time if we don't set limits and focus on what we really want to accomplish. I really appreciate your article.
Even if you say you won't
Hey Lynn,
I still get stuck even when I say to myself, 1/2 hour and then
I am done. Still get stuck for 2 hours.
If it is productive time that you plan on, then it is ok.
Along the same lines of your great article....
Great focus Tommy.

The most important part...
...to me was your reminder to "spend your time wisely." I block every "app" that shows up on my profile(s), but it's still amazing how much time can just disappear when I'm communicating with like-minded people on Facebook, etc. For me, I MUST be sure to keep the day's priorities in mind. ;-)
Yep, too many "Mafia Wars" people on Facebook...
I basically let everybody know if I see any more "Mafia Wars" posting on my facebook page for "help" with some stupid mission of theirs, my "Head was going to Exploded!" Well not really explode, but close. :-0)
Anyway, way too many people wasting their lives away online that is for sure.

Yoville does not make me money
Harry,
I had to block out all these applications so I don't waste any more time saying "no" to these requests.
YoVille, Farmtown, Mafia Wars are a waste of my time. If you have the time to waste, fine but personally I don't.
Thanks for sharing Harry.
Tommy
Thanks
Great tips Tommy.
