Have you ever wondered why some people who seem to talk all the time tend to get what they want? It seems as if it’s the noisy ones that we always listen to and do what they want while the silent majority tends to get only the scraps.

There seems to be a secret behind the words of those who speak out that makes everyone want to place them ahead in a queue.

I once moved into a new neighborhood and the period I moved in was when they were having their residence association election. The election organizing committee went round to ask everybody to come and participate. I came out to observe what was happening.

Before the election, there was a meeting to deliberate on some issues. Despite the fact that I was new in the area, I spoke out about loudly concerning certain issues that were raised.

Amazingly, when it was time to nominate those to stand for election, I was nominated and voted in as the assistant financial secretary of the association in an area where almost nobody knew me. So why did they vote in an almost total stranger to handle their finances.

Bathimeus, the some of Timaues a blind beggar, taught me the secret of winning an election in an area where I knew nobody. Bathemeus was sitting on a road side and heard a commotion. He asked those around him what was happening and they told him that Jesus was passing by. Immediately, he started to shout “Jesus son of David, have pity on me”

The moment he began to shout, those around him asked him to keep quiet. He however shouted louder “Jesus son of David, have pity on me”. Then Jesus heard him and asked him to come. Immediately, all those that were asking him to keep quiet told not to be afraid that the master was calling him. He went forward and got his healing.

Bathimeus did not mind what people were saying. Even if he was afraid inside, he did not allow his fear to keep him from asking for what he wanted. He did not allow anybody or Jesus personality to intimidate him into keeping quiet.

Most people would have thought that Jesus would be offended by Bathimeus audacity but Jesus only noticed the voice crying out to him from the crowd. I am sure that almost everybody in that crowd had an issue that they wanted Jesus to solve for them but could not build up the confidence to ask. They were more intimidated by what people will say than by what Jesus will say.

It was the lone voice that cried out that was answered.

                            CONFIDENCE TO SPEAK OUT

I realised that in life, it is those who can muster the confidence to speak up that always get what they want. They are the ones everyone would want to follow. In my community, people did not care that I was new. If I could speak up, then I can be trusted.

It seems silly but that is what happens most of the time. Imagine you are in a midst of strangers where everybody is quiet except a boy that has been speaking out boldly. Who do you think everybody will select as a leader if the group was asked to select one person?

Assuming your group was agitating for something, who do you think would get audience first? There is a great strength in being able to boldly speak out in the face of opposition, fear or challenges.

Most boys wonder why a particular boy seems to attract crowds of girls around him when they could not get a girl to say hi to them. They fail to realise that the secret lies in the ability of that boy to talk to any girl without minding her level of sophistication.

So, the next time you want something; boldly speak out to ask for it. The power is in the boldness.
