The Jenny Craig Business Model: Sell MORE Food To Fat People

Many of you know that Monique used to be a Manager at a Jenny Craig here in Tucson.

Don't know what Jenny Craig is?

Jenny Craig is a business franchise that helps people lose weight through one-on-one coaching and by putting people on a weight-loss program that includes a meal plan with low-calorie foods that are pre-packaged to contain the perfect serving size.

In other words, they sell more food to fat people.

Please, no letters or angry emails -- I have nothing against overweight people and I know that not everyone who goes to Jenny Craig is fat.

But think about it -- how genius is this business model?!

Never mind the fact that the food is meant to be low-calorie and just the right serving -- I get it.

Still, overweight people are overweight because they buy and consume a lot of food.

So along comes Jenny Craig, who says, "I can help you lose weight -- all you have to do is buy my food..."

Jenny Craig doesn't sell weight loss programs -- they sell food!

The weight loss thing is just a way to get their target market in the door.

Don't you wish you had thought of this ;)

So what does this have to do with Network Marketing?

Well, do you know who your target market is?

And if you do, are you selling them MORE of what they already buy?

For example, take a look around the next time you are at one of your company's conventions or hotel meetings.

More specifically, look toward the back of the room...

Is there any opportunity to buy some upsells?

You bet there is!

  • CD's
  • Training manuals
  • Books
  • Notebooks embroidered with the company logo
  • More product
  • Company pens and pencils
  • You name it, I've seen it for sale...

They're selling you more of what you already buy!

You've bought into the company, the products, the dream...

And they have more ways for you to buy what you already like.

Monique and I target Network Marketers.

Network Marketers buy business training, tools, leads, etc.

So we sell more of what they already buy!

Quite a concept, isn't it?

Brilliant Derek

I had never thought of selling food to fat people but it makes perfect sense. I understood the concept of selling people what they want but haven't thought as far outside the box as that.
Pretty darn cool.

That's Just The Truth!

Great post Derek.

Thanks Joyce!

I'm giving credit to Monique for bringing it to my attention in the first place.

But when you think about it, it makes perfect sense.

Does make sense

Well Derek, you have certainly put an interesting spin on knowing your market, and providing what they want. This is a great article, attention grabbing and fun to read.

Thanks!
Susanna

Thanks Susanna

I knew this one would grab some attention, but I'm glad people are getting something out of it, as well.

I like this approach...

You know your target audience and provide to them what they want. What a concept!

That's exactly what the business builders should be doing for their home business.

But, do they all know who these prospects are?

Probably not!

This certainly puts an interesting twist when determining who your target prospects truly are.

Thanks for that...

It´s somehow logically that

It´s somehow logically that with a perfect diet one can eat a lot and won´t gain weight. After I joined a beer of the month club I met a lot of people who tried hard to lose weight eating less. If this article is correct then many of them would be happy.
