Your Fired! - Wait this is MLM You Can't Fire Me!

As an avid home based business student, I have seen a lot of stuff in a short period of time in this industry (more to come later).  A lot of which had kept me away from educating myself about the industry for a long period of time.  I had formed an opinion based on the tactics of the people I had come in contact with. I really appreciate those ethical, professional business people in this industry.  In particular, I want to thank the industry leaders that put their heart and soul into giving back and helping the home based business students in the hunt to better their lives.

Many come into this industry for a variety of reasons.  But one in particular that is very attractive is the Internet.  The Internet is such an awesome tool that I wonder if there was life before the internet.  If you have seen any opportunity media lately, you have probably heard about how powerful the internet is, how huge social networking is, trends, and one of the most important words in business - leverage.  Leverage in any business is key and is one word that 98% of people don’t understand.  No matter what business you look at, someone is always making money off of another person.  The Internet has generated an environment where ordinary people can create leverage and make significant income from home.

Sure every company wants you to recruit more people because let’s face it every company is in business to make money.  Building an organization absolutely can create leverage and is one way to make big money in this industry.  What about the product?  The Internet can also help you leverage your product.  As a student in the industry, I can proudly state that I have made money while I was sleeping, working on other projects, and made money while I was on a dream vacation.  Does your current company or potential company really want you to make money through real leverage?

Recently, I was appalled by what I saw in the contract / terms & conditions of the company I currently represent.  The terms and conditions were rewritten due to a ton of abuse that occurred over a period of time.  As a business professional, everyone knows that there are certain things you just don’t do.  But as we know, money makes some people loose their minds and ethics are out the window.  Can you duplicate company logos or dvds, make claims such as free vacations for life, give tax advice, show your checks to anyone who wants to look, and recruit people to another company anytime you want?  Of course not, we know better!

What about being able to use non company websites, blogs, links to your company sites, promoting products online (ebay, classifieds, etc.), social networking, and marketing online?  I was shocked.  Here I was in a company that talked about the trends we all know and love and Facebook and according to the terms and conditions of business ownership, I could not create leverage on the internet through internet marketing.  What!?  eBay is absolutely huge and it is unbelievable that a company selling product would not allow marketers to use this incredible tool to sell their products.  You see most companies have terms and conditions to protect the corporation.  Instead of placing detail rules of what you can or cannot do, companies have gone to the extreme of preventing everything.  I have seen these same legal restrictions within several companies both new and old.  I dare you to take a few minutes and read the terms and conditions your company has in place.  You too may be surprised.

You see I have seen so many good people that have worked hard to chase the most important wonder of the world – residual income, only to have all their hard work stripped away from them.  Company after Company and years of Network Marketing and still no residual income, what happened?  We all must remember that this is business, while there are some founders out there with incredible hearts, remember just like corporate America, the company is in business to make money and if you break the rules, you may have to suffer the consequences.  YOU, Inc. has to be protected and minimize throwing away the legacy you are building for your family.

I see so many marketers blasting logos and products all over the internet and so far they are fortunate because the internet is so big.  If their companies decided to investigate their lack of compliance, they could face immediate termination.  (See the agreement for your company)  While I know you don’t promote your opportunity the way the masses are doing it, what about the products?  Of course, it is important to build relationships with people but if you have a product or service that you can position in front of people looking for the solution you provide, you will have a very successful product, stream of income.  What I am most interested to learn from the industry leaders is how do you create product leverage on the internet despite all the over the top legal restrictions that companies are putting on marketers.
