The Mobile Market: The New Modern Day Gold Rush

Read More: Marketing

The word is out and companies are scrambling to position themselves for the ever expanding mobile market. With this industry already hitting 4.6 billion (almost three times the size of the Internet), It will be the new marketing frontier for a lot of companies and online marketers.

And what's so amazing about this platform is it reach, respond time and the cost to use it. Unlike the Big G, it cost just pennies to reach thousands, even millions of mobile users, with some carriers having the ability to reach users in almost real-time. Can you imagine pushing the button on an ad campaign for your restaurant special and have people lining your door hours later from the ad. That's what mobile marketing can do for you.

There are a lot of mobile advertisers who are competing for their share of this 4.6 billion mobile market which will keep (i hope) the cost down and the reach growing more and more each quarter. Even Google has position themselves by acquiring the company AdMob for a staggering $750 million.

This for me is a great time for any internet marketer (home business owner) because now you have no excuse for not advertising. Unlike the Big G and other PPC, PPV or what have you, it is not completely keyword dependent. Some mobile advertising providers will let you specify what type of mobile phone you want your ad to land on, even the country, state and city of the user.

Now there are some differences in advertising on a mobile phone than on the internet. One is banner sizes. If you have advertise on the web you know a standard size banner is 468 pixels wide by 60 pixels high. On most mobile phones, especially the Apple iPod, the standard banner sizes is 300 pixels wide by 50 pixels high, so custom banners may have to be created for most of your ad campaigns. In some cases, using a standard size internet banner and reducing the width size with a little cropping may work perfectly. And as for text length, you are restricted to only 35 character across, which will show just how creative you are.

So the mobile marketing platform will definitely charge the game when it comes to advertising anything, because most people have their cell phone with them (and ON) most of the time. And that means a lot more people can respond to your ad a lot quicker than seeing it on a PC. I'm not telling you to give up the internet, because it has its strengths. All I'm saying is, if you are budgeting for your next advertising campaign and want a bigger reach, you may want to consider doing a little mobile advertising, because it is cheap, fast and has 3 times more users than the net.
