The wonders of marketing
The wonders of marketing
To me marketing as a science, is one of the greatest learning skills one can acquire. That is why there is a saying: “he, who markets best, wins”. Almost everything revolves around marketing. You might have the greatest product ever, if you don’t market it the right way, you will not make any money from that wonderful product.
Most everything has evolved over the last decade or two, but for that matter so did marketing and according to me more than anything else. Technology, medicine, vehicles, business and many other commodities has drastically changed, but all sectors of the environment, relies directly on marketing.
People that made or still make their living in the marketing world will know that what used to work a couple of years ago just doesn’t cut it anymore. If you don’t keep up with this changing environment, you will be left behind. If someone had told me ten years ago I will be reliant on Google for marketing products I most probably would not have belief them.
I listened to a clip on YouTube the other day of Sir Ken Robinson, where he explained so nicely how the “education system” across the world follow exactly the same pattern to de-activate peoples creativity and then expect you to be creative once you start earning a living; especially in marketing. That is to me the reason kids sometime can come up with the greatest marketing suggestions; because they have not yet learned not to be creative.
The way Sir Ken Robinson demonstrates this so nicely, is with the remark about a six year old girl sitting in the back row of the art class, drawing and not giving much attention to her teacher. Once the teacher asked her what exactly she was drawing, the little girl said she was drawing a picture of GOD. The teacher immediately told her: “but no one knows what GOD look like”? The little girl, without hesitation, answered: “they will know in a minute”!
That to me, is how positive we all were at that age, but after years of being told this can’t be done and that is wrong, we un-learn to be creative; to make mistakes till you get it right. We are conditioned to think the way society need us to think; if you don’t do that, you are branded as being a problem child or being stupid. Strange how many so called “stupid” people end up being rich beyond anyone’s wildest imagination!
The best thing about marketing is that you could try almost anything and it won’t necessarily be wrong; as long as it works!
