Building an online business doesn't have to take years.  

If things are taking too long for you, it's time to look at your approach. You may need a few simple tweaks to go from a crawl to a full run. 

Don't keep telling yourself things will turn around for you “any day” as you toil away hoping for change. This won't work, and you'll be hoping for years. 

If you have worked your online business for more than 90 days without seeing a spike in leads and sales during that time, you're going about it the wrong way. 

And, when I talk about a spike in leads, I'm not talking about getting all giddy about that first few hundred and thinking that's enough— it isn't.  

By the end of 90 days, your network should already be in the thousands and then the hundred thousands.  

So, here's the first, strategy... 

The path to financial independence is paved with a sizable, thoughtfully recruited network. Yes, size matters here, but it's more than that. 

You need to recruit the top talent to your network.  

These are the movers and shakers, and they're the 20% who make up 80% of your sales. Sounds pretty good, doesn't it? 

But they won't just show up in your email inbox one day because you're such a great person.  

You'll need a better strategy than that to attract top talent. 

So, how do you do this? Marketing. 

Marketing is the reason you'll see a spike in your online business leads and involves all the ways you promote your business and yourself online. 

Top Internet marketers realize there's no substitute for building a great personal brand and leveraging it through strategic marketing. 

By positioning yourself as an expert in your field and the “go-to” person for the inside scoop on the industry, you're in a good place to draw a following. 

When you offer something of value (information) to people, you will see a spike in interest.

And, when you're viewed as an expert in your industry, people will join your network. The whole point is to build confidence and compel people to act. 

Let's face it, this is the very core of marketing. The goal is to develop campaigns so compelling people feel they must act or risk losing out. 

While the marketing vehicle is important, the message is infinitely more so. 

You can have the flashiest, coolest, slickest marketing campaign ever seen, but if there is no call to action, you’ve wasted your money and your prospects' time. 

Your key messages are the 3 points you want driven home in every marketing campaign, website and social network.  

What are the 3 messages?  

The first statement details what you do better than everyone else. The second outlines what they can gain by joining you. Last is your call to action.  

This isn't to say you just jabber on about these 3 messages without rhyme or reason. It means you strategically work them into your marketing campaigns. 

As for the marketing campaigns themselves, start with leveraging social media networks and get started on your article marketing and email campaigns.  

Social networks are free to join and offer great platforms for network building.  

Article marketing and email campaigns let you develop your thought leadership platforms by telling people exactly what you want them to know. 

Finally, get a successful marketing system in place. Without strong systems, you'll flounder as you work to figure things out for yourself.  

You aren't the first to join the online business rodeo so don't hide in the barrel waiting to be found.
