Is Marketing with Video all it's cracked up to be?

Video relationship marketing is definitely in the lime-light. Want to star in your own video?  Easy. All you need is a little training and full steam ahead. right?  But is there possibly a down side to marketing with video... and how can you avoid that?

 Video Relationship Marketing

The cornerstone of any successful business is the number and quality of the relationships it develops. Any marketing success—online or off-line—depends on those relationships. And to build relationships, marketing with video can be a great asset. Internet business training can teach you how to develop those valuable relationships online.

Many people respond to video very quickly. You suddenly seem familiar to them because they recognize your face allover the web. You start to seem like a friend—and it is easy to visualize you as a friend because they know how you look and sound.

Get Familiar

With video you can not only demonstrate what you know; you can also expose some of your personal side. Get transparent.  Be genuine. Smile. Become a real person instead of just some dry information. A client is most apt to communicate with you—set up a dialog that can lead to you filling their needs in the marketplace—when you are familiar and recognizable to them.

Marketing with video is valuable because search engines favor it. And another thing necessary for online success is lots of traffic. Whatever you can do to get more qualified traffic to your site is a definite positive move.

 Generate Synergy with Video

Videos can be used in a multitude of way to create synergy in your online marketing. When you combine elements and the result is superior to the sum of the individual parts, you have synergy. Video added to your content, either article article sites or you blog can create more interest, further incoming links and added traffic.

After you  write an article you can take the same information  and make a video going over the same subject. you can post your video in your article and at various of video sharing sites.  This gives you influence  in lots of places with the same effort. With Video you can use duplicate content and the majority of article content sites require unique content.

Multipurpose Marketing with Video

There are many ways to use video in your marketing. Presenting a talking head—you being in the picture can quickly build rapport and recognition for your audience. Or you can become the important person that someone can contact because you interview experts and have access to them.

Produce a teaching video with a hands-on approach to show how to do something. You can teach online techniques or strategies showing screen shots of the actual process. A power point presentation can be a great way to pass on information. Or demonstrate how to do something in the kitchen or shop like bread making or building a bird house. Or create a new dance step and teach it in a video.

As we talk about video relationship marketing we can see that there are a lot of positives and reasons to learn it thoroughly. Expanding your marketing with video can be a strategic strategy for your online success. It might even be your special niche. And I you may find you have a special talent for it. For comprehensive training on internet marketing become a marketing specialist at RenegadePro.

But keep in mind that not everybody responds favorably to video. Different people learn in different ways. And there are many different types of personalities.

Some people are attracted to a video rather than an article. But not everyone. You don’t want people to go UGH! when they meet up with your marketing so make sure they have a variety of ways to access the information..

Some videos have very little description as to what they are about. I like to have a choice. I don’t always like to take the time to watch a video so the first thing I do is check the length and the explanation.  If  the video promises the information I want and it is under 8-10 minutes—or preferably under 3 minutes—I might click on it. Longer than that—or lack of content description and I don’t even bother to look at it.

Marketing with Video to Expand your Market Base

Since the goal of video relationship marketing is to enlarge your audience—not to limit it, turning some people away from your material is a definite downside.

So, offer a variety of ways to access to your content. Keep the various personality types and learning styles in mind and make some content that appeals to a variety.

Marketing with video is a great strategy for building rapport with your target market. Definitely worth your time and energy to go for it.

So, I should include a video here!!!

How do you view video marketing? Do you use it as a part of your marketing strategy?  And how do you respond to it personally?  Share your experience in the comments below.

Video - Yes or No

Interesting article. Video done well can really help but done poorly...it is just a waste of everyone's time.

Video is an art that does seem to take time but I know from personal experience it is worth the effort.

Video marketing can be lots of fun

Hi Claire,
I personally love video marketing, but I do think there is an art to it. In addition there is a learning curve and it does take time to get comfortable with it.
I think it is important to allow yourself some grace while learning it. Then Just Do It and have fun!
As you said it can be an important part of branding yourself on the internet.

Practice Practice Practice

Claire

You make a lot of very good points about the value of using video. I think video done properly can be a real boost to your business but I also believe that video done poorly can hurt you.

Some people are a natural in front of the camera and some of us are not. Most of us can get good with a little practice. If you're not comfortable right away then video your PowerPoint presentation and talk behind it. When you get more confidence then you can try a talking head video.

Video is just another tool that will really help in your marketing. Take the time to learn it properly and practice before you put out your final product. It doesn't have to be perfect but it should make people feel they want to get to know you better.

You Have To Grow Into It

Create Your Own Videos And Become A Star

Well maybe not a star, but video marketing is definitely a great way to put a picture to your content. I can remember about a year ago talking to a prospect for the first time over the phone and this person made this statement.

"Well after seeing your videos all over the net I fell like I know you already" Human beings are visual by nature therefore video marketing is a great compliment to your over all relationship building and marketing strategies.

An Art

Claire,

As everyone has said, video is an art... An art that can brand the individual if done properly. At first it might seem intimidating. But as you continue to do video. It really becomes fun...

Thanks for sharing, Claire,

Video

Some of us are just naturals in front of a camera, others of us will never be, but we can still use video to promote our business. For those of us who are shy, or freeze in front of the camera there are sites like Animoto and OneTrueMedia to help us produce nice videos.

Some Like it and Some Don't

Personally, I don't care for video, only because I end up freezing up. I've been practicing, but only time will create a better video from here. I do agree with video being a GREAT addition to articles and do plan on adding it a bit over time. With video, people can get to know you, what you look like, sound like, etc. They feel like they can connect with a "real" person. It's a great way to give others a peek at the real you.

Great article!

I Love Video

I think video has arrived! It is now easy enough for the average person to incorporate into their marketing plan. It also allows the potential client to see personality - something that can be faked in print media. It is hard to fake a great personality in video.

My Pros & Cons => VIDEOS

Hi Claire:

I guess I have mixed feelings on VIDEO Marketing.

Personally, I prefer to access the "written word" for learning - something that I can print off if I wish, and use with a yellow marker.

I also appreciate it when someone offers me a "menu" of options to choose from (choice of - video - audio - written article - mp3, etc).

---------------------------------------------

VIDEO => 'MUG SHOT' - Where I simply look at the person's 'face' throughout the whole video, to get the message - I'm usually not able to 'remember' that message for very long - it's gone.

So that's my "downside" if you will.

Not that I don't appreciate the person doing the video - or like what they're trying to do ((I DO)) - it's just that, unlike the "printed word', I can't "study" or "remember" it as well (personally).

---------------------------------------------

VIDEO => PPT - However - I really DO like those videos that use a PowerPoint presentation, with the person's "voice" teaching the issue being discussed.

OR, if the person opens the video with facial intro at the beginning - before the PPT -- OR has a tiny on-going video of themselves, in the corner - during the PPT - that's great too.

And, if it just happens to have a "text" version with it as well (as on a Blog or Website page) - that's just a pleasant BONUS.

----------------------------------------------

I myself, have not started using Videos yet (lots of Audios + Pics - but no Videos). When I do, I'll go to the PPT version. I fully accept the idea that using Videos will help with personal branding.

------------------------------------------------

Anyway, just my own 03-cents worth (Canadian :>)

GREAT article.

Warmly / Peter A.

Thanks Peter

I'm very much with you. I like the menu idea and something written so I can look at it too. As yu said, if a variety can be incorporated more learning styles will be addressed.

Video can boost your Branding

Video certainly requires a determination to get out of your comfort zone for most people. It helps to use video to add the audio/visual element to your content, especially if you can demonstrate something. Soon the sound of your voice, becomes a "friend".

There is a place for the "presidential head" presentation, that is more of a challenge for some. But, we've talked about building relationships, and this type of video can be the virtual "handshake" or warm greeting smile your customer can relate to.

Very good article, Claire.

Not Everyone's Fit

I found creating videos a challenge and a lot of fun. However, many people are not comfortable with that vehicle.

There are lots of other avenues a person can use to create relationships but none will give as quick a result as using videos to make that connection will.

I would suggest to someone who is not totally comfortable to practice in front of a mirror, create a script you can read and just go for it.
You might find that it really is fun after all.

To Video or Not to Video

Hi Claire,

Excellent article... It is a form of communication that many people of the younger generation gravitate to and something that many baby boomers shy away from, I am one of those people that is not completely comfortable in front of that camera. As I see the pros and cons, it is something that all should at least try.

For me, I am with you, I would like the choice of different content, video or written. And, I do look at the length of the video and then decide if I have time for it. Much over 5 minutes sometimes and I am gone.

Thank you for sharing this very insightful article. I do feel that it is a reminder of how powerful video is and how we should all learn to incorporate it into our marketing. Practice makes perfect especially in video. Now I just need to keep stretching and do more...

Video marketing.

Claire,

Very good article. I like your idea of doing a summary video on an article your have already written. The video doesn't require a lot more time since you have already researched and written on the subject.

I am personally lousy doing my own videos. I agree with David Carroll. Some people are just very natural doing a video. I encourage those people to continue producing them. But do it right.

For those who are not comfortable in front of a camera, there are good alternatives. As David says, do a power point presentation with your own audio. Or you could do a computer screen presentation with your audio.

Thanks, Claire.

Making Video Marketing Work

Claire,

Your article got a lot of people thinking, and some good comments resulted. Everyone has to develop their own style, so the video viewer knows we are real, and likeable. It get back to people liking and trusting us before what we say is accepted.

I think if a person can download a written transcript of the video presentation, it covers everyone learning methods.

Interesting Video Thoughts

It seems that everyone has a different take on video. And you mentioned that it's a good idea to include many different types of marketing content so people can choose what works for them.
I like that idea. Some days I have no time for video; other days, I enjoy watching and learning from them. I personally do not enjoy being in them! But, I do realize the power video holds and will continue to add video to my marketing to please all personality types. Thanks for the discussion, Claire.

Video Has Two Sides

Claire,

Really good article...For me, video has two sides. I love producing them!! I am the host of an online TV show and I have a blast creating the show and developing the topics, etc...

On the other side, when I am seeking information, especially info that is teaching me something technical, I prefer to read, not watch. I spend so many hours per day looking at screen. I want to do my learning by sitting a reading words on paper. I like your idea Claire of writing an article and then creating a video on the same topic. It enables each viewer to consume the info in their best manner.

When I produce my TV show, or make other videos, I've learned to err on the side of fun and even funny. This helps keep people engaged and allows personality to shine through.

Peace and Abundance,
Deborah
