Who Gives a Crap About Other People?

Read More: Marketing

Do you actually care about other people or is the only person that you are ACTUALLY worried about yourself?

“You have to give to get”

“The more you give without want the more chances that you will have to get what you want”

“You have to give without want in order to receive”

Famous cliché quotes with hundreds of variations that all mean the exact same thing: You have to give/help other people, if you want to be successful in network marketing and nearly every other career for that matter.

But my question is this: Do you actually care about other people when you give/help or do you only care about yourself?

Are you giving to other people just so that you can be successful?

Many will answer those questions with a big “Of course not Landon, I just care about all people, and I want to help out as many people as I can”.

O really?

So if today a factory in Illinois, whether you live here or not, closes down because they are giving the jobs to people in Asia, would you be happy for the people in Asia?

Or would you be freaking mad because more Americans are losing their jobs?

Most people would definitely be angry. They would be mad at Obama maybe, at the darn economy maybe, at the recession maybe.

But why aren’t you happy for the people in the other country that have just gotten new jobs?

I mean I thought you cared about all people..

It’s human nature to only care about people that are YOUR own.

It would almost be un-American to be happy that Americans lost jobs, and people in Asia gained jobs.

That just wouldn’t be right. You should only want to help the people that are part of your own.

Right?

But then again..

If I’m a part of Monavie, and you’re a part of a competing vitamin juice company Zrii, why should you want to help me out?

Wouldn’t it be un-Zrii of you to lend me a helping hand?

You should only help out the people that are part of YOUR own.

Right?

“Well no Landon of course not because the more people that I help, the better my chances of me getting what I want”

AH, HA!

So do people help others just to get what they want, or do they help because they ACTUALLY care about ALL people.

That quote has turned from something that people just realize on their own because they care and they just simply WANT to help others, into something that people feel like they HAVE to do to succeed in this.

You really need to ask yourself: “Why am I giving to and helping others?”

The day that everything changed for me was when I stopped helping with ulterior motives.

Sure I have always wanted to help people, but I just took that quote and forced myself to help because I knew giving was the only way to succeed.

A funny thing happened.

When I stopped forcing myself to help, all of a sudden I started wanting to help, and people subconsciously picked up on, and everything got a whole lot easier for me.

But hey I’m speaking to the BN. Everyone on the BN loves to help : )

Helping others...

Landon...

I know what you mean I hear those quotes getting thrown around all the time.

But here is my question. We all know that 97% (give or take a couple percents) of people that you approach about your business will not be interesed in it.

For someone to make any money in this indusrty by soley just helping other people, how many people would they have to "try and help" in order to make their money?

97% represents a huge number of "no's"

I do not know about you but most people could not try to help a hundred people and see only 3 results and still stay in business.

Yes the ultimate reason that people help other's is for their own success, but I believe that in this industry you have to actually have the desire to help.

If you are just doing it for you and you actually do not like helping others, you will get burnt out before you know it.

It is called Social for a reason

You have to care about others for this to work, everything runs on a network. As humans we are social by nature, and when you fail to care for others then you just end up alone.

People will laugh at us and say... yeah that's a pyramid and you are not going to make any money. They just don't realize that we are doing them a favor by showing them something a much greater opportunity to succeed, something their 9 to 5 job isn't doing. It is just too big for them to handle but we did our part in caring enough to show the opportunity.

I show the opportunity to certain people I personally know that would benefit, because I care, other than that I focus on online marketing.

This is true, You cannot be successful in our industry if you aren't out to help others. Honestly helping others at that

Sometimes motives are not everything

Sometimes helping others for selfish reasons is still helping others.
If everyone thought that helping others could possibly be self motivated, it would perpetuate resistance to all help because it was done for the wrong motives.
"Wait a minute, I'm not going to let you pull me from this burning building - you just want to be a hero on the evening news - leave me alone!"

Right feelings following right actions.

Nicholas..

Your probably right. But how long is a person going to risk their life going in and out of burning buildings for a paycheck? If a firefighter does not truly care about making a difference you would think that he wold get burnt out(no pun intended) on firefighting.

Same goes in network marketing. How long will a person sit there and help people if they hate helping people?

That's really what this is about.

Yes, a person is not going to be any worse of a firefighter just because he wants to be famous.

And yes, a persons network marketing help is not going to be any worse just because he is only thinking of himself.

But selfishness in this business does not go a long way. It's called network marketing because of the "networking".

If you are selfish, there is a place for you, called affiliate marketing.

Good points though Nicholas.

Dianne..

You are exactly right. This business truly is about helping people. If you don't like to help, like I told Nicholas, you might not be any good at network marketing, but there is other business's for you.

You just have to know where to look :)

As for me, I'm here to help who I can (just as long as they aren't wasting my time! :)

Landon Stewart — Tue, 09/22/2009 - 1:38pm

Helping others out..

Landon how about 'Helping others out because it gives you a feeling of having done a Good Deed and finishing your day with a Smile on Your Face'?

That's why I like helping people out. I don't care where they come from, who they are, what color they are, nationality etc.
We're all one and the same. We have Feelings, Wants and Desires.

And like you said "I'm here to help who I can (just as long as they aren't wasting my time!" I feel the same way. There are some bad-puppies out there who are looking to waste someone's time and energy.

Here's to you My Friend...
