Why 10% of the top 3% Marketing Online Are Going To Fail

I know you have heard it many times before, 97% are going to fail, leaving only the top 3% of people who put forth the effort and came out on top.

Well what if I were to tell you that a minimum of 10% of the top 3% are going to fail in their online marketing efforts?

Would you call me crazy?

Is that statement idiotic?

Let me explain.

There are those that “dabble” online to grow their business and there are those that actually “play” the game.

Those that dabble are going to get swallowed by the big beast that is the internet.

I don’t care what kind of success you are getting right now online, if you are making $10K, $50K, $100K or more per month, if you are not doing ONE thing you are going to fail.

Now I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but it is true.

We can all agree that the internet changes daily.  What worked yesterday may not work today, this is never more apparent than if you are doing any kind of paid advertising.

I will of course tell you exactly what that one thing is here in just a minute, but let me tell you a little story.

This story is about two people.

Let’s call them Mark and Tina, for the sake of the story.

Both of these people are selling the exact same product at the same exact price.

They both start out with a budget to spend on advertising of say $500.

Tina gets everything setup on her campaign, puts some tracking in place to see how well her ads are doing.  The first month, she makes back $400 on her campaign.  Not too bad.  Got a little ways to go but she is getting there.

Now Mark.  He sets up his campaign, loads up a ton of great keywords and targeting and just turns it on.  He doesn’t setup even the simplest tracking.  The first month he makes back $400 just like Tina.

Month two, both Tina and Mark spend another $500.

Tina setup tracking, so now she eliminates the ads and keywords that weren’t working so well and continues her campaign. Now she is spending less money on things that aren’t making her any return on her investment.  This month she makes back $600.  Now she is in a little profit.

Mark didn’t have any tracking in place, so he has no idea what keywords or ads are doing what.  He still makes back $400.  He is starting to get frustrated and looking for the next opportunity, because you can’t continue to advertise and lose $100 every month.  That is just bad business.

He is starting to second-guess this whole interwebz thing, maybe thinking this whole advertising thing is a scam.

Month 3:  Tina is now in profit from the previous month.  She continues to optimize her ads and keywords.  She is now starting to look at new keywords to try and new ads to throw in the mix.  This month she makes back $1000 on her original investment of $500.  Tina is a happy person.

Mark on the other hand decides to give it one more month, he spends far less on his advertising, only spending $100.

This gives him much less data to work with and he is on a slippery slope to the big “Q” word.

Now he is really looking at other opportunities, in which the cycle will continue.

So can you guess what that “One Thing” is that I mentioned earlier, that will be sure to keep you out of the failure category?

That is right.  TRACKING!

Tracking is one of the biggest overlooked pieces of the puzzle, that none of the big name Guru’s show you how to do, or worse yet, even talk about.

I don’t care how great of results you are getting right now.  If you are not tracking, you are going to fail!  It might not be this week, it might not be in 6 months, but you are going to fail.

Tracking is what sets the men from the boys, or the girls from the women.

It is how you are going to set yourself apart from the herd and run with the big dogs.

Not tracking is like jumping in a pool of sharks with T-Bones, strapped to your back.  It’s not smart, and will mean the certain death of your business.

Tracking opens up so many opportunities that you once may have overlooked.

Especially in the network marketing industry.

With tracking you can see exactly how well your business is performing at any given time. 

You know how much it costs you to generate a lead, how much that lead is worth to you in revenue, how much you can spend to acquire a customer, how long people are staying on your site, how long people are watching your videos, and many many other things.

But you wouldn’t have a clue about any of these things unless you are tracking.

I can tell you basically every metric that is available to me,  just ask, I will tell you.

In my eyes, tracking is the NUMBER ONE thing you need to be doing in your business.  I don’t care what you are selling or even if you are just blogging.  I don’t care what advertising method you are using either.  TRACK EVERYTHING!

It is also the number one overlooked aspect, because it is looked at as being difficult and it really isn’t that sexy.

It doesn’t matter if you are a technical dunce, or you could care less about numbers.  If you want to take your business to the next level and be around for years to come, you need to track everything.  I can’t emphasize that enough.

Think about it this way.  You think Amazon tracks?  Do you think Facebook tracks?  How about Google? 

Pick a company, they know more about you than you know about you.  They know your behaviors, they know what you like, and they most certainly know how much you are worth to them!

I can’t even count, how many “Big Name” people I have talked to that didn’t have the first clue what their metrics were.  Makes me about fall out of my chair everytime I hear it. 

I am talking people who are making $50K or more per month online.  NOT TRACKING.  Makes me sick.

Well there is good news for you.  Tracking doesn’t have to be hard.  You don’t have to be a PHP programmer to do it.  Anyone and I mean anyone can do it.

It could start with just setting up some simple analytics, so you know how many visitors you are getting and maybe setting up some conversion goals to see how many leads you are generating.

But the moral of the story is the minute you get tracking in place, at least the bare minimum, is the minute you are ahead of 90% of your competition and the minute you are now playing in the big leagues.

So be sure to stop what you are doing right now and get some tracking in place.  Always think about it when you are doing anything with your websites or ads.

It could just very well mean that you won’t fall into the 10% of the top 3% that are going to fail.

Online marketing is a numbers game, and tracking gives you those numbers.
