Please note that you must know the kind of person that you are talking to, so that you can change it as needed. Please see my other articles communication and rapport.

But here are some ideas.

Here are some tips on becoming a master prospector.....

  1. Leads! You want to have more leads then time. Whether you choose to do this online or offline. You always want more leads then you can keep up with.
  2. Master how to get the prospects in..... then you need to learn how to sort them. Or "qualify"
  3. Face to face networking.... definately a numbers game. Wow you have to work through those numbers to sort out the leaders.
  4. Believe in yourself. Learn how to manage and discipline your fear.
  5. Qualify the right people for your business. Don't get that desperate sweat on your brow! Your business is not for everyone, and everyone is not for your business. You want how people, not why people, was one phrase that I heard.

Some sample questions when you are prospecting/talking with someone.

  1. "Where do you see yourself in 2 years time?"
  2. "How much do you want to earn in 2 years time?"
  3. "Will the work you do now, take you to that point?"
  4. "Are you interested... or committed to changing your life?"
  5. If they say "Call me back in a week"... you say "You call me back when you are serious"
  6. After the meeting "On a scale of 1-10, 10 being that you are ready to get started..where are you?"
  7. OR, say "This is exciting isnt it, lets get you started."

Prospects

  • The warm maret are people that you know. Don't be afraid of them! The is a relationship already established.
  • Referrals - Least used and utilised! "Who do you know", should become a habit. As every person has a sphere of influence that could help you. It might not be for Jackie, but Jackie's uncle Bob loves MLM and has been looking for the perfect one for over a year.
  • Advertising - A massive topic on its own. But be careful where you advertise... and what you advertise. I might write an article on this one.But I want to say here, dont spend a fortune on advertising. Its not necessary.
  • Leads - This can be discussed in two halves. The first half is, buying leads. Beware... these leads are usually sold over and over again, not only that, but some information is out dated. I prefer the second half which is... generate your own leads. Simple!

Right on target, Helena!

Great set of guidelines to becoming a master prospector. You could right an entire chapter on each point and keep peoples' rapt attention throughout.

I have experienced your first point from both sides. When I was short on leads I HAD to make every single one of them count. People could sense my neediness. Once I had an abundance of leads, with numbers that were hard to keep up with, as you so aptly put it, I was able to actually apply the sorting process techniques I had only heard about. With an abundance of leads you are completely in control.

Exactly, when you have a constant flow of leads, that bead of desperation sweat disappears. Your posture changes and the way in which you communicate. So many times I have seen people go to events and start hunting. I mean, they might as well have grabbed a spear and chased people round the room. All in the effort to get a prospect, instead scaring them half to death!

When you have posture, its a whole different ball game!
