Mentoring - The Most Important Word To Know When Starting An Online Marketing Business

My mentor is the most important ingredient in my online marketing business. "My Mentor" is the spice that makes the recipe for online success worth the time to cook. In fact, if I was going to start cooking up an online business and didn't have "My Mentor" in the kitchen, I'd drop what I was doing and run out and get it. Without "My Mentor" whatever I'm going to cook will probably not rise and would more than likely get cooked in the squat.

If you have spent any time on the web looking for an online business your head is probably swimming from the plethora of information that you've come across. I'm going to suggest to you that if you have come across those online marketing sites that tout slogans like "automatic", "no selling", "just sit at the beach and rake in the money", run.

Think about it. How much do you know about online marketing? Do you think that reading an instruction manual or buying a submission program is going to be enough to make you $15,000 in your network marketing business next month? I read a book once to give me a memory like a steel trap and I forgot where I put the book! Big help that was! Now, I have to admit that there are some people that have done just that in their first month in network marketing or home based business. There are some people who also have won the lottery. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't skill that made it happen in either case. There was a bit of luck involved. I've been to Vegas and luck is definitely over rated.

The only thing that will give you a fighting chance to succeed in online marketing is having someone who has been through the fire to help you. A mentor. Call it what you want, a network marketing coach, or a home base business master, but when it comes down to it, there is nothing that will beat having a live person to talk over the "how to's" of starting your own online business.

Personally, I don't feel like I need to harp on mentoring much to convince anyone that they need a mentor. But, I think that what happens to all of us when we are looking through all those sales pitches on the Internet, is our emotions take over and keep us from thinking things through thoroughly. (That was a tongue twister!)

There are pitches that do such a great job of convincing us that next month we'll be rich if only we knew about this little secret. Or they appeal to our lazy bones and promise cash with no work. Some of these network marketing pitches are so full of promises and guarantees that we can't lose that we want to "just try it." After all, "I'm going to learn all the little secrets for online business success." After reading all that, you tend to forget about the reality of the situation. The reality is that here you are a newbie and you don't even know what you don't know about you don't know what. So here in front of you is the promise that if you just know this one thing, you could get rich.

The most important things to look for while you're looking for an online business or network marketing opportunity to get involved in are:

1. Do you have access to a mentor?

2. What kind of access do I have to this mentor?

3. How motivated is that mentor?

4. How long will that mentor's interest in helping me succeed be? One sale? Two sales? Indefinitely?

The bottom line here is that while making better than average income via online marketing is not hard, it's not so easy that anybody who reads a 140 page e-book can reasonably expect to have a spitting chance at it. Again, think about it. If it was that easy half your neighbors would be doing it.

The reason I'm writing about this is because of all the stuff I've found on the Internet that projects the idea that "You can read my e-book and make $15,000 your first month." It kind of makes me mad. It's not truthful. It's not realistic.

I spent the last 19 years in the fundraising business. (If you have ever bought cookie dough from a school kid, Thank You!) To me, there is no easier business. In fact you could drop me by parachute in any section of this country and I could start making very good money within two days. But I couldn't write a 200 page E-book, give it to you and expect you to do that this year! It just wouldn't happen. Fact is, before you got it figured out, you'd probably become so discouraged, you'd find another line of work. On the other hand, I could mentor you. Phone calls, personalized webinars, personal advise and coaching that fits you and your personality, and you'd stand a good chance of succeeding. That's the way we currently train our sales reps.

So when you're looking for that perfect online business out there, choose wisely. Find an opportunity that offers a mentor. You'll be glad you held out for that program. There is an old quote, I believe it was Napoleon Hill that said, "You can get everything you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want." I happen to agree with that.
