Who read Mike Dillard's latest letter:

"'Walk The Line ...' - A Raving Rant by Mike Dillard?"

I have to admit, I got a lot of satisfaction from reading that one. Mike said things I'd been wanting to say for so long, but didn't dare.

It took courage to write that letter because he knew it could offend a lot of people.

I didn't want to write that sort of thing because I was afraid of losing prospects and even current members in my downline.

But after reading Mike's letter I realized ...

But after reading Mike's letter I realized ...

... What do I have to lose, except losers?!

For those who are of like mind, and tired of making excuses for your own failures, and even more tired of hearing the lame excuses from others with an entitlement mentality, you may be interested in a book I'm reading.

It was recommended by a prospect I was talking to the other day (now this is the kind of prospect you want!) and it's entitled:

"It's Called Work for a Reason - Your Success is Your Own Damn Fault" by Larry Winget.

He also wrote a couple other books:

  • "Shut Up, Stop Whining and Get a Life"
  • "You're Broke Because You Want To Be."

I bought all 3 books and am considering either recommending or even sending one of them to every new person I enroll.

Larry says: "There is no excuse for not doing well. And I won't forgive you for not doing well. Others might, but I won't because I know better. So does any other successful person."

And, "We pretend that other stuff is important, but what really matters is results. They rarely ask how - but they always ask how many. Everything else is a smoke screen."

I just love his no-nonsense straight talk. Some find it offensive, but I find it refreshing.

Then I came across this about half way through the book:

"Rise above competing and instead be unique so you have no competition ... At a time when most professional speakers were broken into only two categories - trainers on a given subject or motivational speakers - I created my own category: Me!"

Hmm, sounds a lot like the "You, Inc." principle from "Magnetic Sponsoring!"

Successful people are all following the same general path -

One of personal responsibility, hard work, determination, and MAKING things happen one way or another.

It's actually pretty simple. But it's not easy.

Many prospects say they want success to be easy. And for that reason, many in the MLM industry have catered to that mentality rather than challenging it.

But the deeper truth is that it's actually a blessing that success is not easy. In fact I believe it's built into the nature of things for a reason.

Someone once told me, "Your check will be as big as you are."

And that's the point.

In order to handle the responsibility of success, you need to have tremendous personal growth.

Nature demands that we grow personally in order to receive success so that we will be responsible with it and the money and power it provides.

Certainly it's not a perfect system, and some successful people find ways of abusing the power and money. That's what gets in the news all the time, and that's what the self-proclaimed "down-trodden" focus on to excuse their own lack of results.

But having been very successful myself, and running in the the circles of successful people, I can tell you that they are some of the most giving, caring, and generous people on the planet.

Through the battles they have waged, and the suffering they have experienced, and the evolution they have enjoyed, they have a deep empathy for others who are truly in need.

What they don't have much tolerance for is:

  • People with an entitlement mentality.
  • People who create excuses rather than results
  • People who say, "Yes, I think I'll try your business for a few months and see if I can get rich too."

It's time to demand that our prospects "grow up" if they want to work with us.

I recently wrote an ariticle in which I encouraged our industry to halt the hype in the way we market our products.

Now I couple that with an invitation to halt the hype with regard to the business opportunity.

It's not only the ethical thing to do, but it's also good business.

Because in life you get what you ask for.

So if your marketing promotes how "easy" and "automatic" your system is, guess who you will attract?

That's right - you'll attract lazy people who don't want to work. Then 6 months later you'll look at your downline and cluelessly ask: "Hey, how come no one is doing anything?"

Do the opposite.

Write your marketing to attract leaders and go-getters. These people are actually repelled by hype and "get-rich-easy" claims.

Rather, have your marketing reflect the honest truth that your business requires that people put in a serious effort. And you just may be surprised when your downline experiences explosive duplication because of the leaders you attract.

Awesome Article!!

Awesome Article!! Thanks for sharing. Your article speaks to all of us because I know many times I would be guilty of telling people how easy it is, when in reality I knew differently. I also see the type of people I attracted when I did that and the result was no duplication in my downline.

So, this explains it!

Thank you for sharing this article here. Sometimes I feel alone in this mindset because I see so many marketers doing the hype based marketing to attract the GRQ (get rich quick) mentality prospects.

My team knows me to have low tolerance for excuses and complaints and I've found myself holding that back in some of my content... at least til they get to know me better ;-)

You have my pledge of allegiance Barry, to encourage others to "halt the hype" and stop the madness. It's the only way to improve the image of our industry and attract better quality prospects.
