MLM Creative - How Ron Paul, iPhones and American Idol Help Your Marketing

Ultimate mastery of marketing is able to tell what's on people's minds and speaking to that directly.

I have great news for you - you don't have to be a mind reader to be able to do this.  Let me show you.

Ever notice how there always seems to be some topic every day that everyone is talking about?  They talk about it at the dinner table, at bars with buddies over a few beers, around the water cooler at work, etc.

Yo, did you watch Super Bowl last night?”  And on and on.

Man, did you hear what Apple did with the prices of iPhone?”  And on and on.

Who do you think it’ll be?  Hillary or Obama?”  And on and on.

We, as human beings, are social animals – we tend to follow the herd.  When we are given the impression that a topic is of importance and everyone knows about it and is talking about it, we need to be “in the know” also.  We don’t want to feel left behind and, quite frankly, uneducated, un-sophisticated, and stupid.

So when a hot topic hits the news and the masses catch wind of it, we ALL have to know about it.  We all want to find out more about it – if nothing else than just to seem “smart” to our friends and just to have something to contribute.

I am going to show you how to capitalize on this obsession in your creative.

You see, what a hot topic reveals is what is on the forefront of people’s minds.  People want to soak up as much information on that topic as they can – they are driven by a subconscious force to gather as much information as possible.  So… if we, as marketers, learn to tap into that automatic conditioned response, we can draw people to our MLM lead generation marketing with ease.

So when you write your creative (your ads, headlines, etc.), think about what’s happening in the world today – it doesn’t even have to directly relate to your market (you will work it into your creative so that it becomes related to your market).  Think about what’s hot on the news, what people are talking about in the coffee shop, what is an issue that dominates people’s minds.

For example, at the moment, the hot topics could be Ron Paul, American Idol, Heath Ledger, Britney Spears, the Elections, etc. You can get a sense for what are on people’s minds by paying attention to what the media is reporting and also, looking at what people are searching for the most online.

Sites such as:
http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends
http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html
http://buzz.yahoo.com/toptrends2007/

Can all help give you insight into what people have been and are searching for.  Do a quick search on your favorite search engine for “top searched terms” or variations of it to find other sites giving you different stats and most actively searched terms.

Now the challenging and fun part is incorporating a hot topic into your creative.  Some examples include:

“American Idols who don’t make it and hate flipping burgers only wish they can qualify for this golden opportunity.”

“You think iPhones will make you popular?  Wait till you get wind of this – all of your friends will be jealous of you!”

“Prospect and recruit endless leads into your MLM business like there’s no tomorrow – this is more powerful than Hurricane Katrina!”

You get the idea.  Go nuts!

Brilliant idea Raymond. Thanks. Will definately be searching the news from now on. Usually I try to steer well clear but had never thought of using it in my marketing.

Holy Cow!

Holy Cow! 12 Diggs so far. There's another lesson in using pop-culture in your copywriting and articles. It attracts attention from readers outside your niche!

Great Post Ray!

Hi Ray,
I know you are with Ferny the most knowledgeable people on this Magnetic Sponsooring forum. As a testimony, I have to tell people that I have used Clinton Obama in my headlines for the past week and I get over 1253 leads! Try it!

Great advice!

Most people don't think "Outside the Box" and just advertise the words that are relevant to their business. There are so many Hot topics in todays society that using them could send tons of leads to a capture page

Raymond, if this works for you, congratulations. Personally, I try to steer clear of political issues in my marketing campaigns because people tend to have differing views about it. I'd rather hit my readers with the latest news in my industry. Besides, MLM is a world on its own, and it doesnt belong to the forefront or mainstream of people's minds -- or the daily buzz of life. So in my opinion, any attempt to use Britney or Clinton or Obama in my marketing headlines border on being misleading or tricky.

But if it works for you, no problem. Great idea, and thanks for saring your thoughts. :-)

Ray it is a great idea.

I know all of us here with The Winners Income Team
use keywords like that to our advantage everywhere.
We put up a short video on MySpace using Superbowl tags
and received 900 hits over the next week just from
that one. We have also used Clinton, Obama, Castro,
Recent Oil Prices, and some other very popular searches
and integrated them into blogs and postings...it
works...it really does...it may not generate real business
builders at first, but as time goes by momentum
builds..Thanks again for the post

Where do you draw the line?

Thanks for all the responses! I appreciate the feedback.

Verniel Cutar, you raise a good point and I leave it up to the reader to decide for themselves on what is "tricky" and what is "misleading".

A lot of it also comes down to HOW you incorporate hot topics into your marketing. For example, if I said "Obama endorses my MLM" when he doesn't, then by all definition this is tricky and misleading.

However, if I instead say... "Would Obama be running for president if he had known about THIS?? Find out." or something to that extent, some may argue that this isn't as misleading or tricky for it is merely a question - and leave it up to the reader to decide.

Ultimately, the point of your marketing containing hot topics should NOT be able the hot topic, but should be about whatever it is you are promoting. It may take a bit of twisting of your words to do it.

However, at the end of the day, everyone's opinion of where you draw the line differs. To each his/her own.

Thanks for your input.

Raymond

Good advice

Thanks, Ray.  This is PERFECT.  This kinda stuff really helps get me out of my initial "writers block" that most new copywriters face.  You rock, dude!
