MLM Financial Success: Your Word Selection Attracts Prosperity (Part 2 of 4)
How often have you hear a story like this from one of your new (and 'struggling') distributors? Let us call him 'John':
'I am an unemployed teacher and a single dad. I got into MLM about 3 months ago. I love the company I am with and know first-hand that the products work. But if I don't do something quick to build my business they will disconnect the heat in my home (I already have one disconnect notice). I desperately need money right now.'
If you were this person's upline or sponsor, how would you help them? What would you say to them?
This is a moment of true leadership: to have the courage to 'tell it like it is' to this person - not to talk down to them, not to criticize or to judge – rather to understand this person, with compassion, to try and figure out why he thinks in this way.
This will help you to be the leader to help John to see the 'prosperity' within himself - to help him change the way he thinks and to help him achieve those first, small successes on the way to greater accomplishment.
How do you do this? First start by analyzing John's story. This is what he has directly told the universe:
1. I am an unemployed accountant.
2. I need to do 'something' quick OR ELSE!
3. I already have one disconnect notice.
4. I am desperate for money.
These are the challenges that John has to face based on his word-selection and mental focus:
1. John has told the universe what he is - 'unemployed', and an unemployed teacher to boot. He is continuing to create the experience of being an unemployed teacher by focusing on that existence. To best help him, John needs to focus on production and what activities he can do today to create more immediate income (and keeping his income goals attainable at this point in time). He needs to let go of his past as the determinant of his future results.
2. Knee-jerk reactions - Doing something quick may or not help John. If his sponsor is a leader, that sponsor will help John to create an action plan, set goals, get clear on his passions, his why, and perhaps even provide accountability and measures, so that John will have a clear picture and understanding that when he 'does something' it is a clearly thought out action with an intended purpose. Having a action or goal based on 'response' is far more fulfilling than a knee-jerk action coming from reaction and fear.
3. Focusing on the negative 'reality' (the disconnect notice) is often an attempt to get sympathy from others, i.e. should you feel sorry for John? No! Feeling sorry is a poverty mindset. Help John to shift shift focus. Louise Hay talks about loving and blessing all of your bills in her book, "You Can Heal Your Life." The idea is to accept that you are responsible for things like your heating bill - the heating company trusted you to be able to pay by giving you 'heat' in advance.
4. Desperation - 'someone who desperately needs money' is someone who is held back by fear. This is not said without compassion, nor is it a judgement. When you are 'desperate' you are in a state of having an urgent need or desire, and the emotions you experience leave little or no hope. It is a state or being reckless and in this state, the focus is usually on what is wrong or missing. If we connect point one above with this point - that you manifest in reality what you think about – the best way to help John is to show him how to focus on productive solutions instead of focusing on his need for money.
Sometimes we have to do whatever it takes, from eating humble pie and working extra hours, late at night or maybe taking on a job that we may not like or doesn't use our skills and creativity, to pay for our bills and groceries until other income streams grow. The key here is to help the person in 'desperate' need to see that he or she has options and to take immediate actions to create income and to reduce and minimize their expenses.
