MLM Lead Systems Are "Worthless" If You Can't Get People To Them

Read More: Capture Pages  |  Marketing

I see a lot of "chit-chat" about Lead Systems...

People debate which lead system is better.

It's a worthy discussion because a lead system "can be" a great tool to "help" generate leads & creat more cash-flow while building your primary MLM.

But there's something a newbie needs to know before they go looking for a Lead System...

MLM Lead Systems Are Worthless If You Can't Get A Lot of People To Your Capture Page.

It's a big waste of time and money to plug into a Lead System if you don't know how to get people to your lead capture page in the first place!

It is also a waste of time and money IF you do get people to your capture page but your message doesn't stand out in the crowd... because you'll be competing with soooo many more people who use the same lead system you do (even if you have your own videos because the message is too similar).

I discussed the importance of 'standing out' in the first article of this series, "Is Your Lead System Leading You Nowhere."

Don't Waste Your Time & Money Thinking a Lead System Will Generate Leads...

If you don't take the time to learn how to get people to your lead capture pages, you'll struggle and end up wasting months of precious time, not knowing why the system you're using worked for those who promoted it heavily, but not for you.

First... Learn How to Get People to Your Lead Capture Pages

There are basically two major ways to get people to your lead capture pages:

1.  Free and Low Cost "Social Marketing" Methods

Or...

2. Advertising with a Cost

Free & Low Cost Methods:  Social Marketing

These can include:

(You only have a master a few of these to become a Guru)

To really make any of the above methods work you must study a few other areas as well:

--  Know your target market and know what and how to write to them specifically so you're attracting them wherever you go.  I'll discuss the significance of this more below, and we'll explore the topic fully in a future article in this series.

--  Seo (search engine optimization) is vital as an ongoing study if you're generating leads through any of the free methods.  This is how you get your stuff to come up on google, yahoo and youtube search results (and any other locations you're aiming for in the social marketing world).  I'll explore this topic much more in a future article in this series.

--  How to brand yourself so you stand out in the crowd... and so your "target market" wants to follow you, join you, and buy from you.   I'll discuss this more below, and we'll devote an entire article solely to this soon.

Advertising with a Cost (not necessary if you learn the above methods)

  • Google Adwords and other Pay-Per-Click advertising throughout the web
  • Advertising on web sites (like here at BetterNetworker)
  • Ezines (like newsletters by email that target certain audiences)

I encourage students to learn how to use the free and low cost methods first because that forces you to learn the most important part of the equation:  How to Attract People to WANT to Join You

If you don't learn how to do that then you're just stuck with a lead who doesn't care who you are.  But if you can use the social marketing methods properly, they'll know you, like you, and TRUST you BEFORE you even talk with them... and that puts you light-years ahead of the game compared to "just" generating a lead.

When I pay for any 'advertising methods,' which I rarely do anymore, it's only to direct people into a web of resources I have created to brand myself and provide value.  I may introduce them to a lead capture page first, but I don't just rely on the system, my videos there and some auto-reponders.  I have to demonstrate I am valuable to them beyond just that.

The process is deeper... and now where are getting into why most poeple who use the best lead systems in the world can't do anything big with it... they ignore this part of things because it requires more effort and thinking then most are willing to give.  Don't let that be your mistake because it's actually far more difficult to succeed if you avoid the 'thinking' part.

The process has to go beyond just a branded capture page with some videos inside a system to attract a prospect to your team.  For example, by referring them to a blog you've created with value ... and showing them the kind of marketing you've set up that brings you results, you set things up so the prospect wants to buy from you without ever having to make much of a direct effort to sell them.

Want to learn how?

I'll be delving into this much more and discussing some of my favorite methods I've mentioned above that will drive the traffic to your lead capture pages, bringing people to you who WANT to join you and buy because of the foundation you put down beforehand.

Second...  Learn How to Brand Yourself, 'Attract Your Target Audience' and How to Talk on the Phone Through the Consultative Approach.

Branding Yourself...

Branding yourself in the sense it's used in this industry basically means that people get to know you, trust you and see you as someone valuable to them (someone who can help them get what they want).

Many of the newer Lead Systems these days typically allow you to brand yourself by allowing you place your own videos into the system or link to content (like your blog, etc.)

But learning how to brand yourself goes much further than just having your own videos on your lead capture page and around the system you use.  You must learn how to demonstrate you have something unique to offer, besides just a great Lead System.

I discuss the reason this is so important in the first article of this series, Is Your Lead System Leading You Nowhere?

If you skip the significance of this, you'll flounder, struggle and be left scratching your head.

Attracting Your Target Audience...

If you don't take a few days to just get your head wrapped around who your target audience is, what their dreams, aspirations, fears, wants, doubts and needs are... you will either fail, or you'll struggle a long time as you figure it out slowly and unconsciously.  It's your choice.

Basically, attracting your prospects successfully requires you 'talk to them' in your advertising or free social marketing to such a degree that it's as if you're connecting with them on some personal level, addressing their problems or needs and offering solutions so perfectly that they can't help but fall in love with you--because you nailed it for them.

Learn to do that.  If you're struggling to get the results you're after and you haven't taken at least 3 days (on up to a week or more) on just this one subject alone, you're just wasting your time and money on lead systems and whatever else you're up to.

I put a few days into creating a free training series on just this topic... to help people sit down and get over this part of their business process once and for all.  It's called, "The 7 Lessons to Attract Your Prospects to You."  You can find it inside Magnetic SuperStar or Renegade University by getting a free account if you feel you haven't done this exercise sufficiently on your own yet.

How to Talk on the Phone Using the Consultative Approach...

There's another piece to this I'd like to mention.  If you're going to be spending all this time and money generating a lead, you better put a few days (or weeks) into preliminary study on how to talk to that lead using the new 'attraction value-based' principles that are so effective in this new age of business.

Basically, the same principles you've learned here at Better Networker or from some of the great authors and coaches out there, need to be applied on the phone properly as well.  Otherwise, you'll miss so many opportunities.

I did a webinar on that topic recently--it's about an hour long.  If you think that's too much time to invest into studying this key element of success, good luck to you!  Because it actually requires about 10 hours minimum of study if you want to knock off 3-4 years of learning it the hard way (through the "University of Hard-Knocks" as most people do).

I should also introduce you to two other great coaches who have successfully taught some of my students the 'consultative approach on the phone, Alicia Bausley and Barbara Silva.

If you're not 100% comfortable on the phone, knowing how to give value first so you build trust and attract the sell (making it irresistible to buy your highest commitment item or package), you need to focus in on this area once you start generating leads.

So there you have it.  This concludes the 2nd article in this series on what it takes to win BEYOND just having a great lead system.

If you missed the first article in this series, click to review it here.

Look for many more articles in this series, where I'll go through my favorite ways I generate leads (like blogging, social networking, video and more).

The more you know the easier it is to grow.  But if you can follow a click-by-click and step-by-step learning process, you'll significantly speed up your learning curve.

Why build a house on a sand?

Hi Mike,

This is very good for me since I am fairly new to this network.   People are trying to lure me in to all these great site that generate leads.   I appreciate but I still need to get the basics down especially how to create a good webpage.   So I completely concur.

I don't know how true this is but I've heard it took 7 years to build the foundation of the the World Trade Center but it took 3 years to build on top of it.   So a strong foundation is extremely important.

Thanks so much for this article,

Systems Can Only Do So Much!

A system is just a tool, because you still have to not only drive traffic to the system (and learn how to market it effectively), but you also have to learn how to build a relationship with the people who opt-into your system. A system is not some "magical cure-all" for anything...it's just a tool that if used properly and effectively can help you build your business a whole heck of a lot easier.

Good article Mike!

A Lead Capture Page + Prospects Finding It = Results

Cool article, Mike! The information in this article is so vital to anyone who is trying to build a business on the Internet and generate their own leads.

Many of my client who are just getting started have the perception that just because they found a leads system and there are people reporting great results using that lead system, then it should work for them as well just like that.

Well, that's not exactly true.

What I go into explaining to my clients is that you can use the leads system and its pages and the tools it provides, but without knowing how to get people to it there is no benefit. So first thing someone needs to know is that there is a lot more work required then just buying and forrwaring a domain name to your system's lead capture page with your video on it. You need to bring people to it or better said you need to make sure that your prospects (i.e. target market) finds you and your lead capture page easily.

Great Article Mike.

You are right, unless you know how to get people to your site and unless you can be unique in your delivery, it does not matter if your system is the greatest thing since the cancellation of Salley Jesse Raphael.(lol)

There is so much noise online that one must be able to separate from the masses.

Thank you for sharing your article with me, you have a great writing gift.

Your the Hub

Branding who you are is more important than some lead system. I have used the systems and stacked tons and tons of bought leads in them. It only works if your target market is looking for what that system is selling.

Learn how to get people looking for you and the leads are ready and willing to hear what you have to say. If your website / capture pages can't be found it is like advertising in the dessert.

This business takes time & education - it will be worth it if you take the steps now and not later.

Another Valuable Lesson

Mike,

If anyone still doesn't get it then they aren't paying attention.  People follow YOU in this industry and not your system.  We are just the vehicle they are using to get to where they want to go and if we can't give them the Value they are looking for, then they will move on.  Marketing Merge is my vehicle and I have been using it for several months to educate myself and learn all of the principles behind attraction marketing and how to generate my own leads and build my own business on-line.  If you don't take the time to do this, then you will never have any value to anyone in this industry.  It takes time, commitment and patience but it is all so worth it.  I have learned so much and now feel that I am positioned to be a coach and mentor to anyone looking to take their business on-line because I am doing it myself.  It's an old and worn out saying but so true - "GIVE a man a fish and you feed him for a day, TEACH a man to fish and you feed him for life".

No Traffic = No Business

Mike:

Another great article - always look forward to your very helpful articles.

Having the "BEST" web site or lead capture page does not help you if no one visits it. You must have traffic and you must give them a reason to stay on your site. You must also "sell" you and not your business. They may join your company, but they will be working with YOU.

Another Example

I enjoy giving analogies because sometimes it makes it easier to make a point by putting it in a different context.  When thinking of lead systems, it might help to think of a tile setter who uses a wet saw.

A wet saw is an expensive tool that allows you to cut ceramic tile and marble very cleanly and accurately.  It can greatly reduce the time it takes complete a job, and any good professional tile setter almost surely uses one for most of their jobs.  Of course, there is a lot more that goes into laying tile than just cutting the pieces.  There are many skills which come into play that determine the final outcome of the job.

Someone bidding on a tile job could probably fool some customers into hiring him by showing up with a truck full of expensive equipment, including a wet saw.  If they didn't have the other skills necessary to do a good job, though, the final result would suffer, and the customer would be very unhappy.  They certainly wouldn't refer this tile setter to anyone else they knew.

Don't rely too heavily on the tools of your trade, whatever that trade is.  You MUST acquire the skills necessary to know how to use those tools effectively, or you will find yourself with a truckful of expensive tools and no customers to use them with.

Great Article

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the article. I wrote you recently about a lead system I was considering getting and this answered my question perfectly. I'm not going to mention the system, but they let you post your video on the capture page and use the same wording on everyone's site. I'm still learning through your training, and have generated a few leads so far myself. I'm excited about your new Magnetic Superstar coming next month. My dad is a complete newby to computers and he said "Wow this guy is good, I could even do this" Thanks for all you do Mike:)

Lead Capture Pages Are Only Good If People Find Them

Once again Mike you really deliver a message. All the comments are so spot-on.

Generating leads is the name of the game and targeted ones at that. Creating your lead capture pages is just the beginning. Getting people to find it is so important.

Learning how to market your message so people find it and your lead capture page is so important and one of the most significant elements in internet network marketing. There is a lot of work involved and there's no denying it. I tell my clients to invest in themselves and their learning. The more they learn, the more they have to offer and the more others will be attracted to them.

Targeting your market

In every article you write you hit the nail right on the head. If you were a carpenter you would never have a sore thumb because you never miss.

I have a new website with only twelve articles with a target audience of people interested in health and wellness and every page is on the first page of google and that they tell me is a tough market to break into. The page views are 29 pages per day and the click through rate varies between 6 to 12-1/2 percent

Last count some of my pages were on the first page of google in thirteen different countries. I have not monitized yet but I will as soon as I have about 30 pages written.

Internet marketing, I don't seem to have found the groove yet I have developed a niche amongst newcomers but don't seem to be making much progress, This article has been a great help. I am going  to take some time and see see if I can approach my target from a different angle. I have known for some time I need to develope my own capture page but haven't taken the time to do it. Now is the time. I have been spending most of my time learning and writing content

Thanks again Mike Klingler for what you write. One thing I think all of us would like to know. How long did it take you to be able to write like that and without an outline yet?

No Traffic No MLM Business!

Great title for this article. I wish everyone planing to join a mlm business read this article. Learning how to get the right eye balls to a business opportunity is the key to success. That just remind me of one of The 7 great lies of network marketing by Ann Sieg "Everyone is your prospect" this is so not true. The key to be successful in any Internet business is to learn how to generate prospects with a good marketing strategies not the business system itself.

MLM Lead Systems Are "Worthless" If You Can't Get People To Them

Hi Mike,

You are right on target again.  It doesn't matter how great your capture page, your lead system, or website is, you're not going to have any success in your business if you can't get people to look at them.

You mentioned the two ways to bring prospects to your capture page - no and low cost methods vs. advertising at a cost.  I've done a lot of pay per click advertising and have had some success.

But I have found it somewhat difficult to attract my specific target market using a very short ad on Google or Yahoo.  Also, when people opted into my website, they didn't know anything about me.  They could learn about me through my auto-responder messages, but it wasn't the same as those leads coming to me through the low and no cost marketing methods.

I have found it far more beneficial for me to market using blogging, content sharing, etc.  By doing this, the prospect already knows me before they ever opt in to my website.  This results in a far more qualified lead for me.  You do an excellent job of teaching those methods.

Mike, Great article. I

Mike,

Great article.

I think people get confused sometimes and they need the reinforcement of hearing the message multiple times.  You have done a phenomenal job teaching what needs to be done to be successful using attraction marketing on line through marketing merge.

But I think people sometimes have a tendency to do some of the activities and not all of the activities, so the overall system is not as effective as it could be. It's human nature kicking in! People take actions that are comfortable for them. But if they don't do the uncomfortable parts, they may not see the success they deserve.

Keep up the great work educating us and reminding us to support the entire process.

So which system is better MS

So which system is better MS or Renegade. Which system is btter or more easy to navigate and more hlep in it. I know very well that traffic is very important and I know how to do it. Just want to know which system is better in the back office MS or Renegade?

Harprit Singh — Tue, 12/02/2008 - 12:05pm

For Harprit

Hi Harprit,

How do you define a great system?

If you provide me with your list of criteria I may be able to assist you better.

Personally, I believe it has to do more with YOU than it does the system (company, product or what you're wearing).

In the case of Renegade and MS... when books bring in millions it's not really about which is better... it's more about which qualities and strategies we want to duplicate, or what combination of qualities and strategies we want to duplicate, in our own businesses.

Excellent Article Mike!

Everyone is so focused on getting leads that they put little thought into what they would actually say to someone if they did call. As you point out so well: "you better put a few days (or weeks) into preliminary study on how to talk to that lead using the new 'attraction value-based' principles that are so effective in this new age of business."

The consultative approach is critical to success. It takes the pressure off you because instead of trying 'to get someone' you are simply having a conversation and asking them questions to see how you can be of assistance to them. Your opportunity may or may not be a solution for them. When you let go of the outcome it makes the whole process enjoyable.

2 excellent books on the topic are The New Conceptual Selling and How to Sell Network Marketing without fear anxiety or losing your friends.

The Lure of the System

Hi Mike,

Thanks so much for the great article.  I find that I have to fight my own urge to hop from system to system, always looking for the best one.  As  I'm learning from you in the Renegade University every day, the system is not the issue.  It's really knowing how to build relationships with people.  If you know how to do this, you can be successful in ANY system.

Every system I've looked into or tried, promises it will generate leads and recruit people for me.  WRONG!!!  I now know, thanks to you, Mike Dillard, Ann Sieg, and others, that I'm the only one who can generate leads and recruit them by attracting the right people to me.

Thanks again for all you do for us!

Knock Your Socks Off

That is soo true man. It's so interesting to me that many people  say this new system is going to knock your socks off; it's gonna put people in your business, but.....time and time again each new thing is only beneficial to the person who already know how to producing leads and new business partners. The key is teaching people how to get what they want, then no matter what "system they are using" it works!

Branding yourself is great advice, but people have to becareful especially when placing video on their lead capture systems, man I have seen some badly done videos.

I had someone tell me one time that I should get my name indexed on Google, something to do with "attraction marketing" in my opinion that is hog wash. If I'm looking for prospects for my "MLM Lead System" then why in the world would I want my name Brian Davis indexed on Google, I don't think very many people who are searching for an MLM Lead System will do a Google for search for my name Brian Davis, I think they miss understood the concept of "attraction marketing"
