MLM Lead Source - The Warm Market Approach
A warm market approach to developing network marketing prospects has its share of problems. This technique is typically unsuccessful and a sure-fire way to strain relationships with friends and family.
Friends and family members are loved ones who are likely to feel an obligation to be supportive so they will listen to the presentation and try to appear interested, even if they’re not. Some of them, although they are not targeted and have no interest in what the business provides, may even go the extra mile and sign up for the business opportunity.
However, whether or not they join the business, it’s very likely, at least for a time, to see a shift in the energy and comfort levels of even the closest of relationships. The ones who have decided not to join will look to avoid another sales pitch, which of course means avoiding the marketer. In addition, although a few of the warm market will be persuaded to join, the problem then becomes attrition. Studies have shown that 97% of them will simply not work the business and will drop out. The remaining ones will have no idea where to begin and will now be looking to the marketer for guidance.
Duplication is the real key to MLM success. While there may be friends that are not mutual friends, family is family and the “first one in” will have already approached the family members which means that the opportunities for the remaining family members, (the new members of the down-line), to take the same approach will already have been exhausted. There is no duplicability in this approach.
Unfortunately, if the Network Marketer does not have a lead generation system in place, and therefore no leads to call when the warm market efforts have been depleted, then everyone is out of business or at the very least stalled. So, the real question is how does one build an MLM business to the exclusion of friends and family members? Actually, there are many free lead generation methods such as the social media, FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., blogging, MLM forums, and article marketing, all of which are great methods to develop high quality, targeted leads.
I say leave the warm market alone. Do not approach them. Just work hard, learn the skills of attracting quality prospects, and what to say to them, and build your business. When your warm market sees your success, they will come to you!
