I used to think Tim Sales was an old irrelevant networker who made his money many many years ago and is now sitting on the beach, boy was I wrong and I admit it. ☺

It is true, he did retire for 18 years and it is true he continues to get large pay checks for a huge network he built many years ago but he is back and his message to our industry is as relevant today as it was in the past.

Tim Sales is to be taken seriously.

So what was his message?

Tim Sales message is, first of all, “hey I was the first one online, even before Mike Dillard and others”, he claims and no one seems to be able to dispute that he was the first networker to set up training systems and marketing online.

His other main message is that no matter how much marketing we do online, no matter how many leads we generate online, this is a people and activity business. Unless you are David Wood who seems to defy logic since he does not own a cell phone, you need to talk to people.

Tim Sales message is, no matter what, you need to do the following four things to succeed in network marketing.

  1. Talk to a lot of people
  2. Track how many exposures you are doing daily.
  3. Follow-up 
  4. Coach your team

Funny how things do not change, this has been true for 60+ years.

Tim Sales says, no matter how you generate the leads, as long as you are reaching good targeted goals for exposures, you cannot fail in network marketing. It is that simple.

As much as Tim Sales was serious he was also funny.

Tim Sales started his career in the army, more precisely a special unit that was responsible for defusing bombs. During this time the war on drugs started Tim Sales found himself working with the FBI to bust drug dealers.

Why did they need Tim Sales? Because drug dealer set up small bombs on their stock supplies so they could blow them up during a raid, thus destroying the evidence.

Tim Sales had to be the first one in….

So Tim Sales thinks it is ridiculous when people say “MLM is a hard business”. Tim Sales list the following 4 problems people face.

  1. Rejection – people saying “no” to you
  2. Deception – people saying they will join but then don’t
  3. Attrition – people leaving your team
  4. Ridicule – people making fun of MLM

Tim Sales says “ha”. “What is the big deal?” In my previous work here is what I faced.

  1. Rejection – Bombs going off in my face
  2. Deception – Booby traps
  3. Attrition – People in my team dying
  4. Ridicule – The enemy shooting at me.
