What Makes the Perfect Multilevel Marketing Company? The Compensation Plan

Read More: MLM News

No matter how altruistic your motive for being in a multilevel marketing company, the bottom line is always the bottom line. How much money will you make?

The compensation systems in multilevel marketing companies are almost as diverse and varied as the companies themselves. Trying to figure it all out can be a little daunting.

Doing a little research in this particular area is important. You don’t need to understand the entire system totally to figure out a few key areas. Don’t be afraid to ask until you get answers you understand.

How many levels down to you get paid for? This has to do with how the company is set up. Some companies go more wide (you get paid for people that you recruit directly, or put under you) and not as deep. This structure encourages people to recruit directly and put people under themselves.

There is little incentive to help others in your downline recruit. This type of structure is also more difficult to maintain since you really have to continually work to keep your income stable since you are the most dependent on the people you recruit directly.

Some companies go deep. This means that you are paid for people below you. How many levels below you depends on the company. If you are paid for people below you, particularly several levels down, and there is compensation for building deep, you are more likely to help those below you build, even if you recruit someone directly. If there is additional compensation to you for people below you building to certain levels, you have even more incentive to help your downline.

Most companies also pay some percentage based on volume, or your sales. Again this can vary from company to company. How often do they pay? How is the volume determined? Do you every lose volume? The last question is particularly important.

Let’s face it, life happens. There may be occasions where you can’t complete your autoship for whatever reason. With some companies, missing this once, even if you have been consistently ordering over months or even years, you can lose your volume (called flushing). For some, you can even lose your place in the company.

Companies are also varying in whether or not they attempt to contact you if there is a problem with your autoship. (After all, if they don’t have to pay you, they are increasing their own profits!) Look for company that doesn’t “flush” quickly and that makes several attempts to contact you and work something out.

Remember, the compensation plan determines your income and understanding it when you join the company is imperative. (Not being good at math is not an excuse!) You can always take your time to learn all the intricacies (and work with your upline to exploit the system to your full advantage). If your immediate upline doesn’t understand the system, keep going up until you find someone that does.
