Momentum Makes Money


Momentum makes a train be able to penetrate a six foot thick concrete wall, yet one tiny block placed in front of the wheel can prohibit it from starting.

This is what I read today or yesterday, that really helped me analyze my business endeavors. Sales can help start momentum when that tiny block of wood exists in front of the proverbial train wheel. Shoppers love for things to go on sale, and by marking products down, if you have that ability in your business, it can fire you up until you gain the desired momentum.

Think about the malls and the supercenters: the school supplies are in, and even the office stores are cashing in by selling things for pennies. Yes pennies. Why? Consumers like my mom go in, get the penny items for my classroom and go out. Consumers like me go in, get the penny items I went in for, and in addition buy something for my daughter, or something to make me feel like I am not ripping the store off by spending 25cents for 25 items and leaving. That's the teacher incentive--a class set instead of the limited number to most customers. Now, not only have they started momentum for back to school, I found myself going in that shop today to ask for their deals! The momentum continues...

Next, it will be the day after Thanksgiving. Oh, and did we already have tax-free weekend in Texas?

The major retailers have momentum in mind. This coupon and that coupon. Just to get your foot in the door. Once your foot is in the door, the momentum has begun. Likewise with our home-based businesses and direct sales. We're all just seeking that foot in the door, and the train will keep on chuggin!
